Absolutely phenomenal!
The property was stunning and continued to reveal more and more character and charm as our week progressed. The "Lakeside" was perfectly appointed and was far and away the most comfortable and inviting place that my wife and I have ever stayed. We wanted for nothing while we were there. The "Alpine" was perfect for our grown children and grandchildren and was so well equipped that I was actually amazed. It seems as though our hosts had thought of everything! The docks, boats, grilling & sitting areas were perfect! The fire pit was great and the views of the sunsets were amazing. Other then a couple of quick trips to the local market ( 5 mins away), we did not leave the property for the entire week! What a joy to be able to relax in such a thoughtfully prepared oasis with the most gracious hosts! Thanks to the Tarbell's for sharing their dream with us and for providing our family with such a wonderful place to make life long memories....We can't wait to return!! The Ross Family Wilbraham, Ma

Campers' Reunion
Last week 4 of us had a campers' reunion at the Tarbell's property for 7 days. We rented both cottages and found them just perfect for our situation. Our camp had been on Lake Fairlee 55 years ago, so we try to get together when we can on this wonderful lake. 3 of us stayed up in the Alpine Cottage - very roomy with a good kitchen and living room and comfortable beds, albeit one room with bunk beds. Loved the wood pellet stove when we needed it. The 4th stayed at Lakeside, right over the water! Both cottages are well appointed and provided us with everything we needed. We had 2 canoes and 2 kayaks at our disposal, as well as the pontoon boat should we choose to rent it. There is a fire pit below Alpine for evening campfires, and many comfortable chairs grouped around at different areas. The walk down to the lake from Alpine is not difficult as John has built a nice set of stairs to use. John & Lesley Tarbell are terrific hosts and we would definitely return again!

Perfect Cabin, Perfect Stay
Lakeside cabin was perfect for our family. John and Lesley a wonderful hosts. We have two young children and the accommodations were extremely comfortable with the ideal mix of quaintness and convenience to allow us to live effortlessly but still feel as though we got away from our busy lives. We would love to return every summer

Perfect place to get away from it all!
The property was even more beautiful than the photos! The 5 boys had the time of their lives! The area is more secluded than I thought it would be, but we were able to get almost everything we needed at Bakers General Store in town (5 minute drive). We were never in Vermont before and were awed by its beauty. Of course, a trip to Vermont would not be complete without a trip to Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory (about an hour and a half drive-call first to make sure they are manufacturing that day). We also went to Peyton Place Resturant-superb, The Hungry Bear, Whippi Dip and the great Fairlee Diner. Another highlight was going to the Drive-In movie in Fairlee-a first for everyone! The property was immaculate! The owners and their daughter were lovely, helpful and kind. The owners took care of every detail and were so thoughtful! Their dogs and a neighbors' dog, Gracie (all water dogs), just added to the fun! It may seem like we went out a lot but most of the time we just went as far as Baker's General Store then back home to the cottages again. It was the most relaxing, beautiful and fun vacation we ever had. I would give Alpine and Lakeside my highest recommendation!

A dream vacation, amazing views and hospitality
This location is the answer to anyone's dream vacation in one of the most beautiful spots in Vermont. The cabin's themselves have everything you need and are very nicely decorated. As soon as you walk inside you feel at home and you never want to leave. The property was clean and very well maintained. The amenities were perfect and we highly recommend that you rent the boat for a daily 'cruise' around the lake. The owners are the nicest people you've ever met. We would recommend this property to anyone who wants to get away, enjoy the beautiful views and simply enjoy what life is all about.

'Alpine' cottage on the hill is a 2-bedroom fully refurbished cottage. 'Camp-like' bedroom setup with a queen bed in one BR, & twin over full bunk beds in 2nd bedroom (open ceiling). Remodeled custom kitchen is well appointed with soapstone island. The living area is open to both kitchen and dining area, has futon and seating for 5, Smart TV. Most of the cottage has views of western horizon and beautiful Lake Fairlee. Wi-Fi, and Domestic long distance included.
'Lakeside' cottage sits directly on water; is a honeymooners-style studio with a queen bed, bathroom, small kitchen and living area with a spectacular view of the lake and mountains. There is a day-bed with trundle, sitting area, and quaint bistro - dining area. Kitchen comes nicely appointed for most cooks. There is also an outdoor shower.
Gas grill, outdoor seating, campfire pit, private dock with ladder, swim out float, kayaks, paddle board, rowboat all come with rental. Pontoon boat rental is available for extra charge (please inquire)
The rental includes both cottages. Alpine' has a classic cottage feel, with knotty pine and hardwood floors, screen door and high ceilings. 'Lakeside' is perfect for two and or to host overnight guests. Or, use Lakeside for a 'changing room' while gathering down at the Lake, make lunch there, take a quiet nap there, play a board game with the kids, or maybe use it's space for yoga or meditation. We think you will love the charm of Lakeside and the functionality of Alpine. Both cottages come tastefully furnished with a mix of antiques and modern comforts.
Parking spot for 4 cars is up by Alpine. We have a Vermont-Cart to help get your gear down to Lakeside. Please note that the property has a moderate-sloped pitch down towards the Lake. Also a 'woods-y' topography (exposed roots, rocks and pine needles etc) - It is not suitable for infants or toddlers. That said older kids love the outside and Camp feel. Please feel free to contact the owner with any concerns.
