During the 70's and 80's an annual Sale Street Fair was held in conjunction with Neiman Marcus Fortnight. It was held right outside this property and there were as many as 600 artisans. The property was an antique store from 1930 to the 1980's. Mrs. Anna L. Erwin operated Hitching Post Antiques and lived upstairs. Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt was one of her clients along with other celebrities. Mrs. Erwin was the first of the Antique shop owners on Sale Street to live above her shop.
The building was built by Justice Tom C. Clark in 1921 who later was appointed by Harry S. Truman as US Attorney General in 1945 and to the US Supreme Court in 1949. Judge Clark and his wife lived upstairs and Judge Alexander and his wife lived downstairs.
Rosewood Properties purchased the property the same time they bought the Shepard W. King estate (cotton magnate)and redeveloped it as the Mansion Hotel. Rosewood used this property as there headquarters until they completed the Crescent complex. No tax on stays of thirty days or longer.
