From June through August the water level slowly recedes depending on amount of rainfall and extreme hot summer weather conditions. By mid September in our very sheltered bay the water levels may or may not be suitable for swimming, fishing or boating however many boaters continue to rent our facilities and launch their boats daily from the public launch which is just 3 miles down the road and utilize other parts of the lake for there boating pleasure.
The months of May, June, July & August have very predictable later levels and are the best months to fulfill you lake recreational needs.

About The Area

A Snapshot of Fulton County: Southern Adirondacks
                                                                “Relax, Play, Wander, Discover”

The splendor of the seasons comes naturally to Fulton County where the southern Adirondack Park meets the Mohawk Valley. Fulton County is home to 44 lakes and 74,832 acres of wild forest, and is blessed with a rich, inviting history and a wealth of culture and the arts.

In an area so varied, beauty is abundant in spring, summer, winter and fall, and the slate of activities is equally complete.

So what would you like to do?

History:

Fulton County is rich in history and museums. Talk a historic walking tour of Johnstown’s Historic Quadrangle Corner and Walk in the Footsteps of Elizabeth Cady Stanton; visit Johnson Hall State Historic Site, the former home of French and Indian War hero Sir William Johnson; events are planned year-round at the Rice Homestead, a 1790 Colonial homestead. The Fulton County Museum, Johnstown Historical Society Museum, Caroga Historical Museum, and many others house exhibits of local worth from Fulton County’s past.

Great Sacandaga Lake In The Adirondacks
The Great Sacandaga Lake is one of the Adirondacks' largest lakes, measuring 29 miles long and about 5 miles wide at its widest point. It's a haven for outdoor adventure, offering plenty of activity and adventure in all four seasons. And lakeside dining on the Sacandaga is one of a kind! The Great Sacandaga Lake was formerly known as the Sacandaga Reservoir. Before the Sacandaga Valley was flooded in 1930, the Sacandaga River and Hudson River caused periodic flooding in nearby areas each spring, which devasted many businesses in local communities. The Conklingville Dam was begun in the 1920's to put an end to the flooding. The work cost about $12 million and was paid for by the businesses who would stand to benefit from the project. Upon completion, over 280 billion gallons of water flooded the valley to create what is now the Great Sacandaga Lake.

Location:

Tucked away in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, the Great Sacandaga Lake is surrounded by towering pines and natural beauty in the northeastern corner of Fulton County. Much of the lake is located in the southeastern part of the forever-wild Adirondack Park Preserve. Bordering towns include Broadalbin, Mayfield, Northville, Edinburg, West Day, Conklingville, Batchellerville, Fayville and Fish House

Culture:

Performing arts and visual arts are vital in Fulton County; community theater and civic bands are a presence in the two major cities. There are a number of art galleries in the county, including the Perrella Gallery at Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown and the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts in Gloversville. Additionally, the Sacandaga Valley Arts Network, an all-volunteer, not-for-profit, cultural development entity, annually sponsors a series of concerts, lectures, workshops and artist receptions. They also curate galleries at the Vail Mills Tourism Information Center at the intersection of Routes 29 and 30 in Vail Mills and the Northville Public Library. There also are several smaller galleries throughout Fulton County operated by individual artists who work in various media including metal, oil, watercolors, textiles and wood.

The Glove Performing Arts Center in Gloversville and Colonial Little Theatre in Johnstown offer great community theater. Libraries are located in the cities of Gloversville and Johnstown, and in the villages of Mayfield and Northville.

Recreation:

Activities and outdoor adventure abound in every season at the Great Sacandaga Lake and surrounding area. In the warmer months, public boat launches offer opportunities for boating, waterskiing, jetskiing, fishing and more. Sandy beaches and rocky shores along the 125-mile shoreline of the lake are perfect for a quick dip or a day of swimming to cool off in the summertime. Because of its great watersports and activity, Sacandaga Lake is a very popular vacation and camping destination in Upstate New York. From RV sites to tent camping to lakeside cabins, there are many options to choose from each summer.

Cooler weather brings snow and opens the door to a wealth of winter activity on the Sacandaga. Snowmobilers can zip across the ice in their leisure or participate in local snowmobile races for even more adventure. Ice fishing is another popular winter sport on the Great Sacandaga Lake, and there are a number of ice fishing events and tournaments from year to year. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing around the lake is a great way to admire the breathtaking scnery that surrounds Sacandaga Lake in the Adirondacks during the winter season.

Five Star Review

5/5 Stayed Sep 2020 Kimberly K. The house was amazing and was very accommodating for our get away week with another adult couple. i have never stayed at a rental that had so many and plenty of supplies, and the kitchen was a dream come true! Ray and Linda were a real delight to chat with and were extremely helpful on the few questions I had. We brought up our jet skis and were able to launch them from town launch just two miles down the road at this gorgeous boat launch!! Unfortunately drought season had the lake levels a little low, so we were unable to tie them up to dock at the house, but it was a minor snag and certainly not in control of the property, but the Lake was so beautiful!!! we hope to come back next year! An Oasis in the Storm

An Oasis In The Storm 5/5 Stayed Jun 2020 Bernardo R. We were looking for a retreat from quarantine, a place where we could unplug and relax with a small group of family, while also staying responsibly distant... This beautiful home (and the Great Sacandaga Lake) was exactly what we needed! The house is spacious and well kept. The lawn, lakefront and dock provided ample time for us to enjoy the outdoors, and we were treated to stunning sunsets every evening. The kids loved running around, and exploring the closet filled with board games and activities for them. Everyone loved jumping in the canoe and kayaks to explore the lake. And we also loved gathering in the kitchen/dining area to prepare meals, often sharing them on the deck. The process was easy, and the owners were lovely. We will definitely recommend to friends, and are already looking forward to our next visit. Published Jul 1, 2020

FUN FAMILY VACATION

Fun Family Vacation 5/5 Stayed Aug 2019 Susan K. We had a wonderful time staying at this property. It was very clean and the property owner was very responsive to our questions and problems. The only issue we had was with the outside grill and he responded immediately with a replacement so we could finish cooking dinner. The house was as advertised - luxury! We had fun in the rowboat and the kids went kayaking and canoeing. We rock painted at the shore one day as it was too windy to go swimming or boating. We cooked almost every night in the well stocked kitchen, but did venture out twice to local lakeside restaurants for clams and shrimp. I would definitely book this again! Published Sep 9, 2019

GREAT LOCATIONFOR FISHING AND FOR EXPLORING THE SACANDAGA REGION

Great location for fishing and for exploring the Sacandaga region of NY! 5/5 Stayed Aug 2016 Janet S. Booked on a third-party site The house was large enough to hold our group. Downstairs bathroom was easily accessible for our elderly friends. Tons of chairs on the big deck as well as large tables make it easy for everyone to sit down together. Large kitchen table was perfect for card games with everyone. The fishing was great and the public boat launch is close by. The dock has a bench and a slide and both got lots of use. Saratoga Springs is a short drive and Lake George wasn't too much further so we got to spend time at both while not being away from the lake house for too long. Excellent stay, hope to be back next year! Published Aug 16, 2016
