Beautiful, Quiet Setting for a Family Gathering

We loved the location (close to Acadia National Park, but well away from the summer crowds in Bar Harbor) and the views. We drove to Acadia, but only one day, as we realized the scenery and walks near the house were just as beautiful. The house was clean, fully equipped, and we had everything we needed. The only thing we had trouble getting used to was the early light. There are no window shades to block the views, so next time I would bring an eye mask to help with sleeping in.

Lovely layout with stunning ocean views

My family and I stayed the last week in June 2017 and all of us fell in love with this house. The house has a very nice layout, showcasing the ocean views and we were happy to just stay there and enjoy all the house had to offer. In addition to the stunning views, there are board games, books and TV if you can take your eyes off the ocean view. It is about an hours drive over to Bar Harbor which is worth seeing but Winter Harbor and Schoodic Peninsula are also wonderful places to visit. My family thought Schoodic Peninsula was the most beautiful spot and it has less traffic. Also, on a clear night the Schoodic Peninsula is the perfect place to go see the stars and milky way. It is quite spectacular. All three King size bedrooms were spacious and had lovely views. There are two that have direct ocean views and one that has a side view but still quite lovely. The King bedroom with the side view has a nice size living room just outside the bedroom that has an ocean view with windows all along the backside of the house (which is the side that faces the ocean) as well as side view (which is also beautiful) with sliding glass doors. The back deck was so inviting and comfortable and was the first place I wanted to be each morning with a nice fresh cup of coffee in hand. The morning air was clean and crisp, and was the perfect way to start each day. The deck was also the best place to end each day with a nice beverage watching the sunset to the sound of the ocean waves hitting against the rocky landscape. As stated in previous reviews, the sofa's in the back living room and the family room just off the kitchen were uncomfortable unless you had your feet up on the sofa as well. The kitchen was very nice and well appointed. I was very appreciative of the spices, coffee filters, plastic wrap, etc that was left behind from previous renters. The house was clean, and as stated above the layout was perfect to utilize the fantastic ocean views. There was a seal that would lay out on one of the rocks to the left side of the house, many lobster traps dotting the ocean and birds flying overhead. Two rabbits that came out each evening to feed as well. We were all absolutely in love with this house and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Away from the world

Amazing house!! Architecturally stunning, with huge windows to bring the outside in...and that's what you want, when the outside is as breathtaking it was. For those who are light sensitive sleepers, it may make sense to bring eye shades to try to keep the sunlight out...in the summer months (we were there over the Solstice) it gets light EARLY in Maine!! Like 4:48am, to be exact! Location-wise, this is 45 miles away from Acadia. Most days, it would take between 45 minutes to an hour to make the trek to Bar Harbor. Again, being there in mid-June, this was before the onslaught of tourists and vacationers, so if traffic is heavy on Rt. 3 to Bar Harbor, the ride may take longer. Also, as noted, the closest "real" grocery shopping is in Ellsworth -- about 30 minutes from the house. This was not a huge deal, but it is best not to forget anything on a shopping trip! The house had all implements that might be needed for meals and preparing food. We kept the meal prep to simple items. The grill on the deck was great. Although there are options to have lobster delivered to the house, we opted to gorge on lobster when we were out and about in Bar Harbor. All of the rooms with king beds had beautiful attached bathrooms, which made traveling with family easy. Not having to share the shower with your mother-in-law is pretty important! The upstairs master suite was incredible, with 3 walls of windows. We would go to sleep every night listening to the waves jostling the red-orange granite rocks on the pebble beach, smoothing them into perfect egg-sized keepsakes. Although a little far from the main portion of Acadia, we were close to the Schoodic peninsula, which is a must-visit site. Schoodic point is awesome to explore (be careful for sneaker waves), and biking from the house to Schoodic was physically challenging and visually rewarding effort. The kids loved the pebble beach (connected to the house by a little path) and crawling around the larger granite ledges. The power of the ocean is awesome to behold up close (again, keep a close eye on your kids!). Thank you to the owners for allowing us to unwind and explore Downeast Maine. We had a phenomenal experience!
