Great time of year to visit!

It was a great place and being there is the fall at peak season made the views spectacular! It was a very warm and inviting home and Donna was great! Her hospitality was wonderful. She made sure we had everything we needed and was more then happy to accommodate if we did not. We had a busy week up there but I will definitely consider another trip to Refuge Ranch for a little R n R! The passive solar setup made the house warm and to just sit and look outside was so relaxing. Refuge Ranch is definitely the place to go to get away! If you are looking for a small town feel and beautiful roads and nice people, this is the place to go! Everyone is so friendly. Everyone waves as you drive by. I do not blame Donna for living where she does~it's fantastic! Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to stay at your place! Many wishes for a great 2016~2017 season!

Gorgeous location, wonderful experience!

Refuge Ranch is aptly named; it is a place you can totally relax and leave all cares and stress behind. If you enjoy being in nature, it would be impossible to be bored in this gorgeous setting. The quiet, secluded trails through the forest and pasture beckon you on; a pristine brook meanders through the trees; and there are lakes and a river nearby for kayaking or other aquatic activities. The living quarters (bedrooms, baths, living room, dining area, and kitchen) are very clean with everything you need for daily life. Though we had no pets with us, the house and barn are equipped to accommodate dogs or horses (respectively) that you may wish to bring along. The front of the house opens to an expansive deck with an incredible view, comfortable chairs, a fire pit, and at night a stunning dome of stars overhead (no nearby “light pollution”)..….a perfect spot to relax and take in all the beauty and sounds of nature. Donna was the PERFECT host, giving us our privacy but also at the ready to answer any question or supply any need. She is a fountain of knowledge about the local area, its history and natural environment, and made us feel very welcome. It was easy to imagine this bit of paradise was actually ours for a short time! We would very highly recommend Refuge Ranch – and Donna -- and can’t wait for an opportunity to visit again!

A Hidden Oasis

Refuge Ranch is built for relaxation! The views on top of the quiet hill can't be matched. The deck alone is worth the trip - a place to unwind and appreciate northern Maine. The house is something of envy and has everything you need to feel at home. Most of all, Donna is the most accommodating host! She made us feel so welcome by putting out dog beds and bowls for our fur babies, leaving the morning paper, and checking in via text to make sure we had everything we needed. This place made our 8 hour drive well worth it!

Beautiful and peaceful Refuge Ranch

What a great place to get away from the grind. Some places fall short of expectations, but not the Refuge Ranch. Peaceful, with great views of nature in all it's beauty, this place is better than advertised, and owner Donna Roy is a gracious and informative hostess. We were a party of 4 adults and there was more than enough room for us. Spacious rooms, a large deck with a fireplace, well kept grounds and buildings, hiking trails, biking, and more. Close enough to Fort Kent to check out a restaurant, go to a movie, pick up a few groceries, play golf - and far enough away for some real peace and quiet! Bring your passports as Canada is just across the St. John's River. History buffs can investigate the rich Acadian heritage of the entire area. Beautiful areas like Eagle Lake and Long Lake are nearby. Donna's Refuge Ranch is the perfect base of operations for whatever you choose to do. When we return to the area we would be more than happy to stay there again. We highly recommend the Refuge Ranch to travelers of all ages!
