Family reunion at Willowbrook
Willowbrook was a perfect house for our week long vacation for our family of seven adults and seven children. There was plenty of space to spread out. We loved our family dinners in the dining room. It is rare to find a dining room where we could all dine together. The location was perfect for sightseeing. Our grandchildren loved playing ball on the huge yard. They also enjoyed fishing on the pond across the street. Every afternoon we swam at Somes pond which was just up the street. It is great being across from the bus stop. The thirty page information book was a great help in planning our stay. It is rare to find a home where the kitchen had everything that you needed. The home is very well equipped. There are a huge number of china and wine glasses. We needed a new can opener and Diana delivered it the next day. She also arranged to have the wireless repaired. She takes great care to keep the home in perfect condition. The home is extremely well managed. Diana recommended Red Sky in Southwest Harbor and Thurston's Lobster Pound which were both great. You can also cook lobsters at the home and everything is there including a Martha Stewart recipe on cooking lobsters.

Wonderful Family Holiday
We very much enjoyed staying in this property - so characterful and well equipped, and ideally located for us near the centre of MDI (you will need a car however). Beds were comfortable and the setting was very pretty. We will be back!!!

Our Family loved the property
Enough space for the two older children and three adults family to have separate rooms. Three grandchildren were in one and two in another which worked great. Very well furnished with great antiques. Enough room for the 13 of us to sit either at the dining table or living room. The property was located the middle of our activities, close to Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain, and the two Marina. This is probably our fifth for family vacation, which we do every two years, the families all felt this was our best vacation ever, H family Grove up separately one from Nashville, one from Memphis and we drove up from Western Kentucky. All made lots of wonderful stops along the way. One family went through Niagara Falls, Lake placid, Mount Washington, Bath then Bar Havol. The other family went through Boston, Cape Cod, Philadelphia, Hershey and Lancaster Pennsylvania, and Washington DC - over 10 days. Would highly recommend the place for a large family

Wonderful old home
The house is very old and has some issues due to it's age, however over all it was wonderful. The owner was very nice and the rooms and beds were great. Low ceilings were quaint but a hazard to tall people. The house is well cared for and the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and small appliances. The linens were nice and very good quality. I would stay again if I ever get to Maine again.

Charming house great for multiple families
We really enjoyed our family reunion week at Willowbrook. The house had plenty of space and comfortable beds for all 10 of us, and plenty of room for people to find a quiet spot to read. The dining room was great for our big family dinners at night and we enjoyed sitting on the patio and having breakfast and coffee. The house is situated in the middle of the island with easy access to everything on MDI. It is right in the middle of a very picturesque village with a beautiful view from the front and a charming little bridge and museum to the side. The only downside is the traffic noise from the street (but not much can be done about that - just bring some earplugs!).

Great for a large family
Willowbrook was a wonderful home for our family of 16. It is an old house; so, of course it has some doors and windows that creak and open unexpectedly as well as some ceilings that are very low. But, it is large, beautiful, has a great big yard, is in a very accessible location, and has all we needed in our week there. I definitely would stay at Willowbrook again as well as recommend it to others.

Family Vacation and Anniversary celebration
We enjoyed our stay at Willowbrook very much. The house easily accommodated the eleven of us. The bedrooms were all large and the beds were fine. The kitchen had everything we needed and the washer and dryer were brand new. The living room was very large and was ideal for evening gatherings. Location was great for seeing Acadia and Bar Harbor. Owner gave us some great recommendations for sight seeing and restaurants. Thurston's Lobster Pound was worth the short drive.

Beautiful property with beautiful view and interesting History.
This property was well maintained, clean and had very interesting information about it's history in the community and the generations of family who lived there. We enjoyed the antiques, beautiful view, convience of location, information of the area provided, and the size of the house so that family was not on top of each other. Kitchen supplies were good, and plenty of towels were provided. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the house to anyone.

Beautiful, spacious, and relaxing!
My husband and I had a wonderful 2-week stay at Willowbrook to celebrate our anniversary! The historic home is very well maintained, and Diana was very friendly and gracious, as well as being a tremendous help and guide to the area. I couldn't help but wonder about all the generations who had walked on the old wooden floors before us. Every day, I seemed to discover something new in the house. It is full of antiques, paintings, books, and history. The furniture is remarkably comfortable, and the linens and towels smelled so fresh and clean! Willowbrook is in an ideal location, with beauty all around. We especially enjoyed sitting on the side porch for breakfast, breathing in the thrill of being there. We loved the views from every room of the house, as well as the extremely spacious yard. There is an excellent art gallery just a few steps away. We also greatly enjoyed our side trips to Bar Harbor, Asticou Gardens, Southwest Harbor, and many other places. There is so much to see and do! Of all the places in the whole country (or even out of the country) that we could've gone, we are extremely pleased that we chose Willowbrook. Our anniversary dinner at the Reading Room in the Bar Harbor Inn was marvelous, with a spectacular view of Frenchman's Bay (as well as a stunning sunset that night)! Everyone was so friendly there, as well as everywhere we went. We will treasure our happy anniversary memories at Willowbrook for the rest of our lives! Peggy, from Ohio

Perfect
We loved our week here! We had 8 adults and 5 small kids- made great memories! The owner is so gracious and kind as she stopped by to make sure everything was good for us. The house itself completely exceeded our expectations- the home is a historic home and I was expecting that it may have some things that go along with that (dingy, dirty, musty)... but NOT AT ALL- house is much bigger than in the pictures and was very open, clean (immaculate actually) and no "old" smells. It was absolutely lovely and has the most beautiful views of the water across the street- as well as the museum gardens right next door! The house's yard is quite large with multiple porches to enjoy. We were very surprised at how soundproof the house was- it was nice that the kids could go to bed upstairs and the adults could visit downstairs without concern of waking up the kids. The location being in the center of the island made access to acadia, bar harbor or any other island destinations very easy and convenient. If you are planning a visit to MDI, this is where you want to stay. Cannot say enough positive things!!!

Fantastic vacation!
Fabulous vacation! House was perfect for our big group and would certainly recommend to friends and family. Owner was very nice and extremely helpful with suggestions and recommendations during our stay. The house had plenty of space to lounge and everyone had a bed. Beds were very comfortable. The back yard was a great place for the kids' evening games of soccer or football. The inlet is beautiful and between kayaks and a paddle board we were able to explore the inlet and venture beyond seeing lots of seals and porpoises. The Island shuttle that stopped right outside the house was fantastic and made traveling to all the spots so much more convenient. Finding parking can be tough, so I absolutely recommend taking the shuttle and having one less worry. Lots and lots of hiking available for climbers of all levels and all within a short distance of the house. We loved the sand beach especially after hiking Beehive Mountain.

This place is quite amazing!
Take a step back in time! This VRBO is one of the neatest houses I've ever been in. It slept 14 of us easily and there was plenty of bedding, towels etc. to go around! We would definitely stay here again!

What a lovely home! All the conveniences of a modern home within the flavor of the past. We live a rather contemporary home, so the trip back to the historic home was such a special treat. We only had seven in our party, but we could have been comfortable with another five. Diana met us at the house with fresh blueberry muffins and orange juice. Maine hospitality. The quirkiness of some of the "shower knobs instructions" and all of the period knick-knacks and dishes added more charm. (We all would take showers and baths throughout the house at about the same time.) Each room and bedroom had their own unique personality, but the whole house decorating scheme is a complete, experience. Big room for television and playing games/puzzles, with other side rooms for more intimate conversations or reading. The location is perfect---quiet and laid-back neighborhood, but close to Cadillac Mountain, Bar Harbor and lots of great hiking. The view of the bay from the front porch was great for morning coffee and the gardens across the street provided even more peace and serenity to our vacation. Thanks, Diana. Hope to see you again soon!

We can't thank Diana enough for her New England hospitality and warm welcome during our stay in Mount Desert Island. We absolutely adored Willowbrook and the location of the house. Thank you Diana for making everything perfect for us! We had a total of 11 family members visiting from Massachusetts, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, and Chicago. Willowbrook was the ideal spot for us all to visit, relax, and explore Acadia National Park. The house was super cozy and spacious for our big group. The location was perfect for what we wanted - relaxing with family and exploring Acadia. We loved the ocean views from the house and the easy access to Acadia National Park. There were also beautiful sights/activities right near the house, including a pond with a walking bridge, a library, and a gorgeous art exhibit that displayed some of Diana's fantastic paintings. We cooked all meals at Willowbrook and enjoyed our family dinners in the formal dining room where everyone fit at the large dining table. Diana even surprised us with blueberry and rhubarb pies that she gave us as a welcome gift, which was extremely generous and thoughtful! The pies were the perfect finale to our lobster dinner the first night. Willowbrook supplied every kitchen and cooking utensil/tool we needed, which was very impressive since we had some master chefs in the group. The bedrooms were lovely and very comfortable, with fine linens, blankets, and towels. With 4 bathrooms, we had plenty of space for everyone to freshen up and get ready in the morning to quickly head out and explore Acadia. We were huge fans of the game room, the living room, and the front porch where we spent a lot of time visiting. There was so much to do between the board games, reading, or relaxing on the front porch that we didn't even turn on the TVs. Diana was an amazing host. She was extremely helpful, giving us tips and recommendations for Acadia National Park activities. She made it so easy for us to enjoy our stay by having everything so well organized and communicated. We absolutely adored the history of the house, falling in love with its charm and beauty. We'd love to stay at Willowbrook again in the future and look forward to revisiting all of our wonderful memories in Acadia.

Abraham was a shipbuilder and traveled to the West Indies, New Haven, Boston and Portland. This home is still owned by Somes descendants and is listed on the National Historic Register. It was once rented to the poet, Elinor Wylie and Thomas Berger, author of Little Man, Big Man.
