Non-smoking.We specialize in family groups and reunions. Two king BR, two queen BR, two bunk rooms, first with a triple bunk and twin and own bath sleeps 4, second with triple bunk sleeps 3, rec room with double futon and a queen sofa-bed. Suggested capacity 15, but obviously can sleep more, the main consideration is for our guests to be comfortable. Remodeled In 2010: Upgraded Kitchen W/ Granite Counter Tops & New Appliances, Enlarged Master Bath With Tile Accents. Two Full Bathrooms Downstairs Remodeled.

Located in the quiet, low-traffic north end of Sandbridge, a short stroll to the lifeguarded beach, Beach Bird features a solar-heated 16 x 36 pool. You can relax on the wonderful shaded poolside patio with comfortable cushioned chairs and table under the 12 x 12 gazebo. There is also ample poolside lounging, outside shower, and two gas grills in the private fenced backyard. Additional features are the downstairs kitchenette with 2nd refrigerator and microwave, hot plate & oven off the rec room. There is a spacious front deck with second patio dining set and ample parking in the gravel front yard. AC/heat-pump, 7 TVs (1 large screen), VCR's, DVD's, hi-speed wireless internet access, basketball, ping pong, high chair. No smoking or pets.

About The Area

We are located on the South end of Virginia Beach in Sandbridge Beach.  We are in the quiet low traffic family friendly North end of Sandbridge.  We are 500 feet from the Ocean, the path to the beach is right across from my driveway. There are several good restaurants in Sandbridge, one is walking distance.  There is a local market that has an amazing selection and an excellent deli also walking distance. There is a large shopping center about a ten-minute drive back up Sandbridge Road with Walmart, Target and multiple grocery stores and restaurants.  We are a short 20-minute drive from downtown Virginia Beach with the Boardwalk and numerous restaurants and attractions such as deep sea fishing and jet ski rentals, even an indoor sky-diving tower. Right in Sandbridge are surfboard and kayak rentals and lessons and eco-tours. The Back Bay National Refuge is at the South end of Sandbridge about 5 miles away. There is an excellent hiking trail there, you can actually walk all the way to NC at the North end of the outer banks.  There is a fishing pier on the ocean side in the South end at Little Island park which also has tennis courts.  There is a huge tennis complex including indoor courts near the VA aquarium before you get to the Boardwalk.  The aquarium has a marine "petting zoo" and an IMAX.  A little further afield in Norfolk is the Battleship Wisconsin.  Across Hapton Roads in Hampton is the Space museum with all sorts of interactive exhibits.  An hour drives back up I-64 brings you to the Historic Triangle with Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, and Yorktown for a good look at our early history.  Also here is world-famous Busch Gardens, sort of a Disneyland of the Middle Atlantic area.  A little online research will reveal many more attractions I have forgotten to mention. 

House Rules

No Smoking.  We used to allow outside but I have come to hate picking up cigarette butts, so we have made the property a smoke-free zone.  I understand the addiction, I am an ex-smoker, you know its not good for you, I can prove how dangerous and fatal it can be, so if you do smoke why not take the week to quit, one one week you can get over the worst cravings and I will be glad to help with the things that worked for me. Also no pets. Again I love animals, know how they can be part of the family, but since running Beach Bird I have discovered that there is a significant number of kids as well as adults who are extremely allergic to pet dander, just like peanut allergy, such that even the tiniest amount can send them to the Emergency Room, and again can be life-threatening. Unfortunately, there is no way to remove pet dander, it gets in the ac ducts, curtains, cushions, everywhere, and sometime down the road a kid could be in big trouble, so please, no pets.

We are set up with four large bedrooms for adults and two bunkrooms for kids, so that's where we came up with the sleeps 15 number, 8 adults, and 7 kids.  We have a double futon and queen sofa bed in the rec room with blackout privacy curtains so we can sleep 4 more.  We also supply extra queen airbeds and an inflatable toddler bed so we have had as many as 23 at a time.  The key point for us is that our guests be comfortable so please review the accommodations if you have a large group and make sure you are comfortable with them, We love and specialize in family reunions so we are fine with large groups as long as you are nice to my house! We don't charge for extra guests and know it can very economical for large groups, just want you to know what you are getting.

We do have to limit Beach Bird to family groups or family and friends. We have had some bad experiences with high school and college groups, and even though I know there are plenty of responsible groups out there, it only takes one to get drunk and tear up a house.  Usually the individuals I have spoken with sound and I'm sure are very responsible, but they cannot control their peers.  So please no high school or college celebrations.
