Storybook location with a cozy cottage

We visited Onancock for a family wedding and everyone agreed that we had the best accommodations. The weather was perfect and so we spent lots of time on the deck and dock, and can't wait to come back. The cottage is adorable however the futon in the 3rd bedroom is not comfortable at all. Also, be sure to pack towels and linens as the web site is confusing. After an uncomfortable first night, we had to go buy queen sized sheet sets that we will never use again. :(

Thoughtful Details, Lovely Home

The Shanahans have thought of everything. The house was even more charming than in the pictures. The house was beautifully decorated, comfortably outfitted and full of character and loving touches. The kitchen and living rooms were comfortable for meals with our family of 4 although we ate out most nights. We've stayed at many Homeaway rentals over the years, and this house by far, has the most comfortable beds and furniture. The deck and its view of the surrounding trees and creek are one of a kind. We spent a good deal of time reading, crabbing, eating, drinking and making merry out there. I ran or walked into town nearly every day and our kids loved jumping off the dock and swimming at high tide. Don't be turned off by any of the negative reviews regarding the cemetery; it is barely visible due to the trees and plants. Besides, who could ask for quieter neighbors? ; ) In fact it's pretty charming and an interesting piece of history. Joyce put a lovely scrapbook together with information about their love for Onancock, how they built their home and helpful hints for a lovely stay in this special town. Be sure to read through it. She was also wonderful to work with and talk to. We look forward to returning in other seasons. It's a lovingly cared for, serene retreat. Thanks for a great stay.

Beautiful spot to relax on the creek

We loved our week at the cottage. For our family of four it was spacious (each kid got a bedroom on the second floor and we stayed in the first floor bedroom) but still had a cozy feel to it. The setting is beautiful, with a huge multi-tiered deck looking out on the creek. We spent two of the days just hanging out and crabbing off the dock. We caught 8 one day, 6 the next, which was enough for a mini-crab feast. We also took out the canoe and the paddleboat on separate occasions, and were lucky enough to join Joyce and Duke on a pontoon ride out to the bay (thanks!). We took a couple trips to the beach, including overnight camping on Assateague Island and a day trip to Chincoteague for the pony swim. Thanks Joyce and Duke for the great spot!

Most relaxing vacation we have ever been on

The owners were so wonderful and attentive. The views were just beautiful. It was so relaxing to sit out on the deck and watch the birds and it be so quiet and peaceful. This was a much needed time of rest and to enjoy all God has created. It was also fun watching the deer across from the corn fields. The sunset on the bay was spectacular and the cool breezes on the deck, made us want to stay out there a lot. We also visited the town and everyone was so nice.
