Gray Cottage, the biggest house, with its large outdoor patio-deck is backed by a roomy colorfully decorated screened in porch, and stands as a familiar sentinel to Leland River travelers who move in their boats through the Leland River into Lake Leelanau.
Several yards behind and south of the main house stands Red Cottage, a once-upon-a-time carriage house, transformed into a comfortable 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage boasting a screened in porch that looks out on a gardened yard complete with outdoor seating and a grill.
With waterfront availability to both houses, come a boat slip or dock space for your own or a rented boat. A canoe is available for the pleasure of guests, also.
Penwood Estate is within walking distance of Lake Michigan beaches, famous Fishtown, a grocery store, several restaurants, and many unique and interesting shops. There are playgrounds, tennis courts, softball and soccer fields in the little town of Leland, as well as a post office and a gas station. There are also two churches in town and golf courses nearby. Some vacationers never sit in the driver's seat of their car for the week of their stay! If a guest brings a motor boat, everyone in the family or group can travel to the grocery store, the library, the historical museum, and restaurants via the water.
