Exciting Multi-level luxury Tree-house barn abutting oceanfront forest

Home Description

'SandyToes' is a charming seaside Nantucket Barn-style home on six levels, nestled into the woods overlooking Cape Cod Bay. Its multiple levels and interesting spaces give it a Swiss-Family-Robinson tree house feeling. Situated on an oceanfront high sandy bluff and abutting 15 acres of forested conservation land (the beach is a short, paved walk down the hill) SandyToes is a UNIQUE and very rare destination. THE ROOMS: The great room is an inviting space at the top of the 'barn.' Under its vaulted, barnwood ceiling with beams and loft, you'll find planked floors, inviting well-appointed kitchen (SubZero, Meile convection oven, large sit-around butcher block island, two Bosch dishwashers, granite counter tops, induction cookers, and more). A freestanding fireplace makes the great room a cozy place to curl up with some of the scores of books. Above the kitchen is a ocean-view loft where youngsters (or grown-up kids) love to bunk or look down at the grownups making lunch with fresh seafood from the nearby fish market. The Great Room's dining deck offers shady sanctuary under its cathedral of trees and has room has a charcoal grill built into a n arched opening in the chimney (along with a top quality gas grill.) There are 3 pleasant bedrooms on the bedroom level: a garden view room w antique pine double bed / an ocean view room w queen pine canopy bed / an ocean view room w king size pillow top bed w antique headboard and small antique soaking tub. The rooms have beautiful wood floors, antiques, books, and comfortable beds.

When you step outside through French doors and stroll a few feet up the short sandy path to the bluff to the seaside observation deck, you experience a vast panoramic view of Cape Cod Bay from the highest spot on the bay. At yet another deck, tucked into a private woodsy corner, you can shower outside by moonlight surrounded by forest. This charming 'upside down' barn has elegant touches, but is casual for family fun and entertaining. There are walking paths along the old Indian trail on the oceanside bluff which start right at the SandyToes' side garden. Swim, wade, or beachcomb for starfish, sand dollars, and hermit crabs on a white, smooth sandy beach.

In the inter-tidal zone, you can sometimes find blue mussels and sea clams for dinner. The water gets warmer as summer progresses, so September and October are surprisingly good times to visit. We've been told that from our deck you can see when the bluefish come to shore in case you would like to try surf casting. (Yes, we did have a guest who actually brought in a bluefish from our beach.) Across the water, you can see Provincetown & Truro, or watch ships on their way to the nearby Cape Cod Canal, along which there is a fabulous seven-mile level bike path and easy parking for your car. If you ever want to leave, Plymouth Rock, the Mayflower, and the fascinating Plimoth Plantation (which is like a trip in a time machine) are only eight miles north, and Cape Cod proper is a short two miles away. Charming Sandwich is also two miles away and has a Glass Museum and Heritage Plantation and a fine antiques auction on alternate Saturdays.

Note: In all our years of renting this 6-level oceanfront home, only one person, was shocked that "SandyToes" does not sit right down on the sand like a Tahiti grass-hut. "On a bluff overlooking the ocean," and "Highest Spot on Cape Cod Bay," and beach access is a "short paved walk down the hill." Her 1-star review said "Not oceanfront, ocean view maybe." Any dictionary defines "oceanfront" as land on the ocean. Sadly, her peevish review will skew all our 5-star reviews. She wrote: "The house is charming" and "the beds are comfortable," and then gave us a 1 star review. To help explain, our 70' bluff is on Sagamore Beach Conservation Land so naturally we can't build beach stairs or otherwise develop conservation land. The 1-star guest was informed a a year before her stay that due to extreme winter weather/erosion, we needed to move our deck back 20' from the edge of the bluff and that even WE did not know how it would look when finished -- and she was fine with that. What was mentally processed between April 2014 and July 2015 is beyond us. She asked no questions about it.

Working in a painfully restrictive conservation zone, we were dealing with an obstructive neighbor, engineers, town inspectors, conservation commission, designers, and builders -- all leading to a $50,000 deck project, we had to tear down a perfectly sound deck at the edge of the bluff, and go through all this because the old deck "looked like" (to our neighbor) it was going to be imperiled... (well, maybe a decade from now) but to satisfy the Town, we went though all this breathtaking expense. The project has been completed, the observation deck is beautiful, and the panoramic views are astounding with jaw-dropping sunrises/moonrises over the ocean, great orbs reflected in the always moving sea, (like a scene from the movie "Contact" if you've seen it.) The walk down the hill to the sugar-sand, private neighborhood beach entrance is 6 houses away. There are huge stretches of pristine sand …but of course, we don't personally control this magnificent natural spectacle of sand, sea, bluff, forest, sky, tides. It changes from season to season. Please use Google earth and the area topography readily available online, if you find these ACTUAL photos are hard to interpret. They are not Photoshopped, they may be cropped, but they are real.

5-Star Home and View!

We spent 5 days at Sandy Toes and had a great time! 4 adults, 4 kids under 4 and no complaints (except for the weather!). The owner was accommodating in our requests for baby items (pack and plays and baby gates), the house was clean and well stocked, and the view is to die for!!! We recommend this place to anyone looking to stay near the Cape.

Sandy Toes

My family and I rented the Sandy Toes property for a week and had a great time. The house was private and quiet and had amazing water views. We spent a lot of time on the deck listening to the waves. The beach was a short walk down the hill and we enjoyed walking on the shoreline which was also quiet with very little traffic. The home owner was very easy to work with, accommodating and easy to reach. Would highly recommend for a family getaway!

6 Star View of Cape Cod Bay

We just spent 7 days at Sandy Toes enjoying the property, beach, spacious home, and that view of the Bay, ohhh, cannot be beat. The home is well appointed for large family gatherings, cooking, spreading out, and not to miss a quick snooze in the window seat, ocean breeze on you, stunning views, a piece of paradise. Although one can drive to the beach, the hike down and climb back up keeps one fit while on vacation - all beach toys supplied. This home is quietly located in a residential spot that is welcoming, clean, easy access to the Cape, and the lower deck with that view of the sunrise, not to be missed! Hope to be back again next year!

4 days of fun at Sandy Toes

My Husband and I were looking for a last minute get away. We found Sandy Toes on the VRBO website and booked it right away. The photos don't do it justice. What a beautiful home! We loved the trails behind the house the short walk to the beautiful clean beach. Not to mention the fantastic views from the house and outside observation deck. I could look out all day. We found wonderful food and dangerous cupcakes in Plymouth. I was on a personal quest to find the perfect lobster roll so made it my job to have one everyday . My vote go's to Martini's Tavern. Lot's of historic sites, fantastic beach walks (we went to several in the area) a short trip to Provencetown, a glass museum in Sandwich and a beautiful Church converted into a restaurant. (The Belfry in Sandwich) So much fun packed into 4 days. We were always happy to come back to our beautiful Sandy Toes. Comfortable leather furniture in the living room to sink into after a day of site seeing and belly stuffing. My favorite spot was the awesome daybed tucked into a nook of windows. Listening to the sounds of the ocean at night from the the spacious master bedroom. The owner Robin is very friendly and helpful. She always got back to me right away with any question I had. She made sure we had everything we requested to fit our needs. a pleasure to work with. Would definitely recommend.

Had a wonderful birthday weekend

We had a lovely weekend at this home. I rented the property for my birthday celebration hoping family would be able to come and relax with us. We cooked Friday night and had a wonderful dinner at the kitchen table. The beautifully appointed kitchen area is so warm and welcoming that it added to the celebration. As luck would have it we were there for the early spring snow storm that lasted almost all weekend but that did not detract from the views from the windows. The twenty somethings that I hoped would visit, were thrilled to spend the weekend with us at this beautiful spot. Notwithstanding the weather we walked the beach and then relaxed in front of the fire. Robin was very easy to deal with. A pleasure.

Thanksgiving in Plymouth

We spent Thanksgiving week at this home and had a great time. Everything was exactly as represented plus some. Robin was especially accommodating to our needs. We had 7 adults and 2 small children and had plenty of room. As always with children, especially a toddler, there were challenges. But, Robin anticipated our needs with child gates and pack 'n play. The multiple levels added privacy and there were bathrooms everywhere. If rain or cold weather prevents enjoying the view from the lovely deck as it did some days for us, the view from the windows in the dining room were also wonderful. Great place for Thanksgiving as it is a short drive to Plimonth Plantation. We enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner there. Hope to visit again as children get older and can more appreciate the history in Plymouth. If so, we will certainly hope to deal with Robin again.

A Classy Place

My wife and I spent a week with our three adult children, one of whom is married with an 18 month daughter. We were very pleased and certainly would be happy to return next year if we can all get together again. The pictures and description give an accurate image of this house. I would not give credence to the one star review which, in my opinion, completely misses the mark. This is an extremely well appointed house with magnificent views over Cape Cod Bay about 80 feet over the beach. I especially remember several mornings watching the sunrise from the spacious kitchen. Truly magnificent. I found Robin, the manager, very responsive and easy to deal with although I never met her. Besides e-mails, we did speak a few times on the telephone. Please note however, the house is on three levels with street level below in the kitchen and living room on the top floor. If someone in your group has difficulty negotiating stairs, that would cause a problem. Otherwise, I would think this house is perfect for any family or group that wants to spend time on Cape Cod Bay in a wooded, private setting in a quiet residential neighborhood. The consistent row of five-star reviews gives a pretty accurate description of what to expect. To quote one reviewer, definitely a classy place.

Beautiful Home - Beautiful Location

This is a wonderful, well appointed home! Perfect for a girls getaway weekend with a group of 9 women. The home has everything you can possibly think of needing. Great deck and patio overlooking the beach, outdoor grill, shower, many sleeping areas, beautiful bedrooms, loft, window seat! We were there with a group of 9 women and everyone had a great time. We hope to return next year!

A weekend to remember

Our family of 4 shared this Sandy Toes with another family over Memorial Day Weekend. My daughter arranged for the house with a close friend from college. The home had plenty of room for 6 adults (3 couples) and 2 young children. It occupied a prominent overlook over the beach with a lovely deck where one could read and see Province town across the water. It was a short walk to an uncrowded long beach (even on Memorial Day Weekend). The kitchen and outdoor grille was outfitted to handle the meals exceptionally well.

Wonderful week at Sandy Toes

We loved our week at Sandy Toes. The house was spic and span, and the arrangements went like clockwork. This property is well-managed. I loved the kitchen and outdoors view, and the roomy master bedroom. My husband sat on the bluff overlooking the vast Atlantic view, and contemplated life. My teenage daughter and her friends were joyous to be in such a beautiful setting and hung out on the each, the sundeck, and the living room. Avoiding the traffic of the Cape was also a plus; and yet it was very easy to get to when we wanted. This is a classy property.

Outstanding Getaway Weekend!

We just returned from a weekend stay at Sandy Toes! It was a group of 9 gals, ages 50+ for girls weekend. The home was outstanding and very clean upon arrival! Location was perfect. Excellent kitchen with every utensil and appliance one could possibly need. The view was fabulous! Hoping this becomes an annual event "again"!

Great Vacation House

We just ended a wonderful week at Sandy Toes. We are a family of 6 adults, 1 ten year old and 3 month old twins. The house was great, very clean upon our arrival and well appointed including beach chairs and plenty of linens. We ate in every night, the kitchen was very well equipped , and the 2nd sink was very much appreciated. We watched the sunrise over the bay, a 180 degree view, and star gazed at night around the fire. The walk to the beach was short but hilly as described. I loved discovering all the hidden treasures like the Texas license plate and the lone star.

Wonderful family vacation

My family of 9 had a very comfortable and fun filled time at Sandy Toes. We enjoyed Boston and Fenway Park, whale watching in Provincetown, Plimoth Plantation, Hyannis, bicycling on Martha's Vineyard. There was something for everyone. We found great restaurants and loved eating in as well. The beach was quiet. The house was comfortable and clean. The owner was delightful.

Absolutely perfect, wonderful family vacation!

Our family of 9 was very comfortable in this home for a full week. The deck is amazing, the house is very well equipped, and the location was great for our needs. I was concerned about not being "on the cape," but that was not an issue at all. The grounds around the home are more gorgeous than the pictures suggest. Be aware that the home is in a residential area and most of the neighbors are residents and not tourists. This was not an issue for us at all, but might be for others.

Peaceful and Beautiful

We feel so fortunate to have found this house! It was very comfortable and clean. Great kitchen, patio and deck overlooking the ocean. Easy access to a very quiet beach. Plenty of good places nearby if you decide you don't want to eat at home some night. The owner is great, easy to work with. Very timely communications.

A surprise on many levels

We stayed at Sandy Toes in mid-March to spend much needed time together with our family. It wasn't the weather that attracted us here, though it was seasonable. It was wonderful, just what we wanted...and more. We booked the trip last minute and Robin was immediately responsive. The host gets 5 stars, too! Very thorough, prompt and attentive without being intrusive. She even made a special trip to mail a left-behind item. (The Ramada ever do that?) Sandy Toes is conveniently located to shopping, etc. We visited Plymouth, Boston and the Sandwich glass museum. We walked the beach, watched every sunrise, had cozy fires, played games, ate like royalty and laughed like loonies! Beds and furniture are very comfortable and the big leather couch was in the perfect setting. Many nooks and crannies to read a book (excellent library), watch the bay, contemplate life or just chillax. Never turned on the TV. The pics on-line look great, but the reality is so much better. Sandy Toes will hold a place in our families hearts forever. Thanks, Robin!

12 Reasons 'Sandy Toes' isn't for you

We’ve just returned from a romantic weekend of seafood, snuggling, and beach-walking in Plymouth, Mass. It’s a spacious retreat called ‘Sandy Toes.’ But you probably wouldn’t like it. It’s really not for everyone. It’s off the beaten path. But if you insist on pestering us about our latest hideaway, take this little test. Sandy Toes isn’t for you, unless you cherish inspiration or seek serenity. Sandy Toes isn’t for you, unless you want to gaze across Cape Cod Bay and see Provincetown (20-miles away), from your dinning room table. Sandy Toes isn’t for you, unless you like a great room with a big, comfy leather couch and working fireplace. Sandy Toes isn’t for you, unless you prefer your SubZero fridges and your dishwashers to come in pairs. Yes, two of each. Sandy Toes isn’t for you, unless you want a place that includes both ocean view and the privacy of acres of New England woods (conservation land) out your back door. Sandy Toes isn’t for you, unless you like every bedroom (all 6) to be unique. Sandy Toes isn’t for you, unless you like lots and lots of newly remodeled bathrooms or an antique soaking tub in your master bedroom complete with ocean view. Sandy Toes isn’t for you, unless you like the convenience of a real kitchen (Meile convection oven) and beautiful dishes, like the kind you’d have in your own home. Sandy Toes isn’t for you, unless you enjoy reading in a picture window sitting area with, yes, another view of the ocean. Sandy Toes isn’t for you, unless you like comfort and quality without pretention. Sandy Toes isn’t for you, unless you enjoy an outdoor shower after a walk to the beach with kids or pets. Sandy Toes isn’t for you, unless you want to picnic on your private deck at the top of a bluff overlooking Sagamore Beach. Thank you, Robin and John, for this wonderful getaway you've created on the bluffs of Plymouth!

Exceptionally beautiful, comfortable home

I chose Sandy Toes to celebrate my 50th birthday weekend with my family and friends. This home was truly the right place to spend it. Large enough that everyone was comfortable. Very easy to get to with out the Cape Cod Bridge traffic. It is decorated in warm beach colors with lot of unique character and antiques. The kitchen is very user friendly and the two refrigerators make room for even large fames and gatherings. There are lots of stairs between floors so you get your exercise. Outdoors is as wonderful as inside. More than satisfied with this vacation home and I look forward to renting it again next fall.

Fond Memories

I wanted others who may be looking at this property to know that my family of 6 adults and 3 small children had a great experience at Sandy Toes. The photos and the listing truly does represent the home-I know that is a fear when making a choice sight unseen. The property and the home are well-maintained, and I found it to be more private than I expected. I found Robin to be very easy to talk to and very attentive, eager to answer questions, and genuine in trying to make your stay a pleasure. She really goes above and beyond trying to have things available that she thinks you may need ( I had to remember it was MY responsibility to have a good time.) The house is very well equipped-the kitchen is stocked with spices, small appliances, dishes, cookware, pots, pans, utensils, recipe books, two refrigerators and two sinks. It was also spacious enough to have 5 people cooking in it at once. It did take us a few days to get used to the kitchen being up above the bedrooms. We kept thinking we were going to the kitchen and then starting to go down the stairs instead of up. When you walk in the front foyer there is a bedroom with two twin beds and a bathroom on the left. This room is open to a bedroom upstairs, but there is a curtain available to use if you feel necessary at the railing of the upstairs bedroom. The laundry area is behind a closed door in front of you at the foyer before you go up a few stairs to another foyer with a toilet and exit to a outdoor shower. Up a few more stairs to a bathroom and little sitting area with book shelf (the kids used this area to play school.) Up a few more stairs to the bedrooms-three including the one that looks down over the downstairs bedroom, and the master bedroom/ bathroom that you can also gain entry from the hallway. Up a few more stairs to a large family room area and kitchen. There is also a loft above the kitchen area with two twin beds. The decor is charming and interesting with books, games, with different pieces throughout the home. The views are picture perfect. Trees on one side- ocean and sand on the other. The deck has a grill and large picnic table. There is a sundeck at the bluff overlooking the beach and also a shaded sitting area at the back of the house. Lots to do. A week wasn't long enough. I can't thank Robin enough for going out her way to make us feel comfortable and welcome. I love her personality, warm and honest. Hope to meet her next time.

If you are looking for a home to stay in while you explore the Cape; look no further. You have found it. Sandytoes is a beautiful home skillfully and tastefully created by its talented owners. We arrived on a cold and wet day, soon had the fire going, cookies in the oven and a cup of hot tea to follow. The cosy dining room was such a pleasure for the family to get together after cooking a hot stew in the gourmet kitchen, while the living room was a really comfortable area for everyone to do their own thing, from playing chess to reading a book in the window seat. The library is stocked with a wonderful selection of books and when the sun comes out, Sandytoes is located in the heart of Cape Cod, with easy access to Hyannis and all the way out to Provincetown. The views from all the rooms are wonderful and the house is situated in a quiet area at the end of the road. There are some amazing restaurants nearby with an authentic Tea Shop in nearby Sandwich and a Thai takeout restaurant around the corner. We are a very fussy family and even with three princesses to cater for, everyone fell in love with the house instantly. If however you are a light sleeper, I suggest an eye mask, because dawn comes early in the North. I can recommend Sandytoes to the most discerning of travellers and we will go back again soon for another wonderful vacation in one of the most beautiful areas that the United States has to offer. Thank you Robin, your house turned out to be every bit as wonderful as it looked in the photos.

Valentine's Day to remember

My husband and I were looking for the perfect romantic getaway at a time we usually don't get time off from work. We found "SandyToes" on vrbo and were smitten by the photos, but it was MUCH more wonderful in person. We had some wild winter weather, stayed around the fire, cooked, enjoyed the huge ocean waves. Decor is gorgeous, king bed was very comfortable, the house is very well stocked, great kitchen, dramatic environment. Can't wait to come back in the summer. C+D Fischer

Wonderful Stay on Cape Cod

We had a family of 8 who came from all over the country for this vacation, and the house worked out perfectly. Plenty of space for everyone, several modern amenities yet the home still has plenty of charm. Great views of the Cape with the beach is just a short walk away (an outside shower comes in very handy to keep the sand out of the home). Loved sitting out on the deck overlooking the bluff and taking in all of the fresh air. The furnishings were very comfortable and clean, with the kitchen stocked with all of the cooking utensils you will need for great meals; just bring your food and your set - grocery stores are just a short drive away. One word of caution for some travelers: while the home is amazing and worked out perfectly for us, it is large and has several levels; so there are a lot of stairs. The physically disabled or those who just dislike stairs should probably look for something else. However, the upside of all of the levels: great views from up top and plenty of privacy for everyone staying inside the home.

Very special place

The view from the small deck overlooking the bluff and virtually every window in the house was spectacular. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are hoping to make an annual tradition of it.

Sandy Toes was the perfect Cape Code

We loved our stay in Cape Cod and "Sandy Toes" exceeded our expectations. We found the property on line, and while you can never be sure based on pictures what you will get, our expectations were exceeded in the quality, cleanliness, location and kindness of the landlord. We are a family of 5 and our boys loved the unique features of the home and our evening campfires gazing at the stars and the Bay. I would recommend this property to others and would stay again if we find ourselves in the Cape again.

Two couples from Quebec and a baby

We got the Sandy toes home by chance and were dazzled by the house. It's spacious, typical and charming. Nicely comfy as well. The view from the terrace on the see is fantastic. The spot is very well located to visit the area. We enjoyed very much the BBQ and sitting by the fireplace right by the see. We had a wonderful week end!

Full of Charm and Character

"Sandy Toes" (and Robin, the owner) saved our vacation. After a pretty ugly housing snafu upon arrival on the Cape, I contacted Robin and was immediately invited to stay at "Sandy Toes". With half of our party of seven having just arrived from London and the other half from California, we were anxious to have a place to settle in and start our long-awaited family "reunion". "Sandy Toes" is a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind property. I loved the dark wooden beams and the views of the ocean from the Great Room and kitchen/dining area. We cooked every single evening in the fabulously-appointed kitchen. My 13-year-old nephew absolutely reveled at being able to sleep "in the attic" (the loft). The beds are so comfortable that my 3-year-old and I both miss sleeping in them! The house is a short walk from a beautiful beach--great for kids. The Cape Cod Canal trail is about a 5-minute drive away and it's a great place to run. Walk out onto the deck at night for some amazing star-gazing. I actually SAW the Milky Way. Robin, the owner, is friendly, professional and a joy to work with. Thank you for saving our vacation! We will be back for sure!

"Wonderful Week at Sandy Toes"

Sandy Toes excelled all our expectations- House was lovely- Immaculate with wonderful views from almost every room. This was truly a "family vacation" with our children and grandchildren. We had great "day trips" to Plymouth, Boston and Martha's Vineyard and lots of time just relaxing on one of the patios or on the beach. The Grandkids loved the smoors cookout on the patio under the stars watching the Moon on the Ocean!!! The owner was exceptional and stayed in daily contact for any needs or problems that might have arisen- There were none! We will definitely make a return visit to "Sandy Toes". Mark & Joan

Thanksgiving at Sandy Toes

Somewhere between a Swiss Family Robinson and Ralph Lauren lies Sandy Toes. What a perfect, delightful and charming place this is. Perfect for our extending family and extending tummies over Thanksgiving. We loved playing games, chatting and even doing yoga on the big room with warm fire. The turkey BBQ on uber-grill outside. We even fit in a Polar bear evening swim. This is a very special place. Style and extra-ordinary warmth and comfort. Thank you.

Camp Sandy Toes Was a Hit!

My extended family recently returned from our Sandy Toes vacation. The home was absolutely lovely and inviting. It felt like home...I wish it was! The view was out of this world. You are treated to one of the best views I have ever seen from windows and decks, the sparkling ocean as far as the eye can see! We felt obligated to take day trips down the coast, but we always missed our home away from home when we did. The beach was beautiful. It was never too crowded and the water was actually quite warm. My nephew found starfish and sand dollars in the tide. We were accompanied by our young rescue pup who was a happy camper. She was able to take leashed walks through the woods as well as lie with us on the beach. In the early hours, when the beach was empty, we allowed her to run through the surf off-leash. I could go on and on...the kitchen was huge and well stocked. My brother-in-law loved the convection oven. The grill was amazing and the washer dryer was described by my son as space-age. My only warning is that the home might not be a good choice for someone who has difficulty with stairs. It has many floors. Stair climbing is a must. The beach requires a short walk as well. My 77 year old mother required a lift to the beach and back again since the hill is quite a work out. I would return to this amazing house with the incredible view! Thank you for sharing this spot!
