An amazing cabin escape!
We have rented this cabin twice to celebrate the new years away from the busy city life that we're used to. The cabin is AWESOME! It's a real log cabin and you can feel the labor of love that was put into every log (especially the ceiling work in the master bedroom - wow!). The cabin is spacious and well equipped with an epic fireplace in the center of the main room (w/ LOTS of wood), an outdoor fire pit, board games (I think our group has the record for the marble game - played forwards, backwards and forwards again all in one go), pool table, air hockey table, fantastic front porch, and plenty of room for sleeping. Needless to say, the cabin has everything you'd need for a cabin getaway (and more if the nature isn't enough for you). It's well maintained and cared for and we love how it's so close to civilization yet you feel so tucked away in the woods. Make sure you check out Cunningham Falls when you come - it's a beautiful place to hike. Dave is a pleasure to coordinate with. If you follow his instructions everything is a breeze. Overall, if you're looking for a nice cabin to spend a week or weekend in - this is the one! We'll be coming back again! Sisters/Cousins vacation
My sister and I and both our families met for the week at this cabin. A total of 11 people. We stayed for one week and loved every minute of it. There was so much to do inside and out. From playing in the game, playing charades, and making bed forts to roasting marshmallows, walking through the woods, visiting the state park, and the historical cities and towns that surround the area. I can't wait to visit in the winter so we can make use of the beautiful fire place. A Beautiful Oasis for Our Family Celebration
So often, holidays can be rushed affairs, with time spent more on traveling, cooking and cleaning, then in the truly important work of just being together. Our time at the cabin for Thanksgiving gave us the gift of a world away, and a chance to reconnect with those we love. The cabin occupies an ideal location, close enough to home that it is easy to get to, yet tucked away in the woods so that you can escape the cares that home sometimes brings. We traveled with our four almost adult children, as well as our brother and sister in law and their three kids. Dave had done a wonderful job in advance of our arrival, providing clear directions, as well as all of the information we would need to run things at the cabin and explore the surrounding area. We found that our new home for the week was even more than we expected, and exactly what we needed. The cabin was clean and had plenty of room for the 11 of us. The enormous stone fireplace dominated the living room, and there was plenty of firewood to keep us warm every night, laughing, telling old stories and making new memories. On Thanksgiving Day, the kitchen provided all of the space and tools to create our feast. And when we finally gathered around the table, we were as thankful for our time together at the cabin as we were for the food. The cabin is absolutely a place of beauty, and a space for slowing down and just being. We would recommend this spot to anyone, and know that Dave and his family will make it as special as our experience was. Beautiful, roomy, well apportioned, great location.
The pictures do not do this place justice. There is a LOT of room to fit sleeping people. The fireplace is solid and has an integrated vent system that lets it heat the house very efficiently in winter. The furnishings are rustic and lovely, there are pool, foosball, and air hockey tables downstairs, and the location is great--near a confluence of trails from the local state part, and also within walking distance of a nearby winery/distillery that opened recently, itself a fine place. No internet, though cell service is great, and the TV isn't that big, but this is a place to go to experience wilderness and your fellow cabinmates rather than watch TV, so if anything that's a plus because it discourages electronic entertainment. Can be a bit hard to find, especially at night, so I recommend scouting it out before making the big trip. Only a mile or two off of the highway, though you would never know it. Fantastic for kids
We stayed in the cabin for three days with five kids and two adults. The kids loved the loft, the impressive queen-size bunkbeds, and the nice selection of board games, cards, books, and magazines, and of course the game room! The owner, Dave, was a pleasure to deal with and always quick with email responses to questions. Overall, the cabin is clean and well-maintained. We were there in the summer and found the central AC to work quite well. In fact, by dinner time we had to turn the thermostat back up it was getting so chilly. There is plenty of seating for eating and relaxing, even a family-sized hanging swing on the porch. We found this cabin on the HomeAway website and the amenities are all pretty much accurate. One thing that is not made clear on that website is that while towels and linens are provided, you have to wash and dry them yourself at the end of your stay. Another nice touch is that Dave provides a pass to the state parks. We took advantage of this and took the kids to the beach and canoeing just minutes from the cabin. One of my kids is an avid pool player and was thrilled with the pool table in the game room. This eight-foot table features sturdy legs, a ball return, and a moderately fast cloth. It is well-used but in quite satisfactory condition, although the cue ball is a bit battle scarred, no doubt from too many falls onto the stone floor. There is a good selection of cues, including some short ones for the smaller players, and even a bridge. Dave's written instructions on how to use the DVD player were excellent.

Fantastic weekend getaway close to DC
Our experience at the cabin was brilliant. The place accommodated our group of seven lads very comfortably (there are more than enough beds) and we were happy to find a gas grill outside and games room in the basement. Location-wise, the cabin is great for a weekend getaway from Washington DC since it takes just over an hour to drive up there. For activities, Harpers Ferry is half an hour down the road and there are plenty of hikes in the nearby parks. Best of Both Worlds!
UMBC said... Best of Both Worlds! Jul 30, 2015 We rented the Cabin in the Woods for a long weekend getaway for our 12 person family. The cabin was awesome! It hit all of our needs, and provided the perfect space for our "glamping" trip. The cabin has all the best attributes of a camping trip- great fire circle, picnic tables and grill, secluded wooded environment, hikes, waterfalls and a lake nearby and all of the best attributes of a vacation home: air conditioning and heat, kitchen, plenty of beds, stocked kitchen and a cool game room in the basement. Dave, the owner, could not have been nicer. We just loved every part of it and look forward to coming back again. Several people in our family debated calling in to work on Monday and extending our stay! A break from chaos...
Needed someplace to get away from the hectic pace of the DC area for my wife, children, grandchildren and myself (9 in all). We all fell in love with the photos on the website but they did not do justice to the cabin and area. My family and I were very happy with everything we found at the cabin. The grandchildren spent most waking hours at the cabin downstairs on the pool and air hockey tables...a very nice relief for their parents. I would recommend this cabin to anyone wishing a bit of seclusion and peace. The cabin is great and there are many things close by to take care of all tastes. In addition to having rented a wonderful place to relax and enjoy, I also met a very kind and decent person in Dave Sugarman. Though a number of emails and a phone conversation I found Dave to be an extremely kind and helpful person. He and his caretaker staff of Rick and Marie were extremely helpful in going over and above what I would have expected to be the "normal" responsibilities of a renter to assist me and my grandson. I am forever in their debt. If you are looking for a nice place to get away from the hectic busy everyday rat race... by all means contact Dave... You won't be sorry. Relaxing family vacation
My parents recently rented this cabin for a long weekend family vacation. It was very nice to get away for a little while and just enjoy the beauty of nature. It was a very spacious cabin tucked away in the woods. There were 9 of us and we all fit very confortably. The kids 6yrs-14yrs had a lot of fun playing pool, air hockey and Foosball. We visited Gettysburg, Cunningham Falls and Hershey Park (about 1.5 hour drive) all within a fairly close proximity to this cabin. I would definitely love to come back again with my family. The owner seems like a very decent person ... we forgot my 6yr old sons star wars DVD in the DVD player and they had no problem mailing it back to us very quickly. That was greatly appreciated since my son is completely obsessed with his star wars movies and was heartbroken that we forgot it. Great Cabin in the Woods
As advertised, the cabin is a beautiful place to get away. Spent a long weekend there with friends. Took hikes in the woods, loved the fire pit out back. Plenty of room inside for all. The fireplace kept us nice and warm. Very comfortable and we recommend to all! Thanks, Dave!

Cabin Oasis !!
Wow!, we had a great weekend at the cabin. Everything worked out so smoothly. We had 10 people show up for my friend's bachelor party. Everyone was impressed with the accommodations and the style of the cabin. What a nice oasis from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Great for entertaining both indoors and out. The game room downstairs was a big hit. I received plenty of compliments for finding this all- inclusive, very comfortable, convenient and backwoods atmosphere. I feel that I must turn these compliments over to you (Dave)for creating this masterpiece. It felt like we were out where no one could bother us - but in actuality, it's less than three miles from stores and services. Thanks again for all your help and coordination to make this a memorable weekend. Time of our lives!!!
I rented the cabin for a cousin and friend reunion weekend. The house was so much bigger then we expected. Beds and space galore. Very homey. We loved everything about it. The kitchen had everything needed to cook for a large group even 2 grills on the side deck. The weekend was filled with massive gourmet meals, field day games during the day, and fire side fun at night. The state park is so close by we spent a day picnicking, hiking and swimming. This is a place where memories of a lifetime are made!!! I could not have asked for a better weekend with the people I love. Thanks for sharing your piece of heaven with us...I will definitely be back! :) Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Sightseeing, Girls Getaway, Tourists without a Car, Adventure Seekers, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway, Families with Teenagers

Looking for a Great Vacation? This Real Log Cabin is the perfect 'back to nature' get-away. Just a few miles from the Presidential Retreat, Camp David, there are plenty of options for things to do. In the Winter, the Cabin is close to great Snow Skiing & Snow Tubing. ASK ABOUT POSSIBLE DISCOUNTS FOR JANUARY AND FEBRUARY (which won't last long). In the Summer, we're close to Sandy Beaches without the crowds and it's just a stone throw from Maryland LARGEST WATERFALLS. If nature is what you like, it does not get any better than this! Walk a few steps out the door and you are within 5000 acre Cunningham Falls State Park. Like to Plan Ahead?? Looking for a peaceful summer alternative to the ocean that has no tolls? Look no further.
To see more go to www.logcabininthewoods.com (you may need to copy and paste this link) or email me at [email protected]. Thanks !!
As an added bonus, last year the 100+ acre farm right next door opened their own Winery and Distillery. Pretty Cool place to just sit, have some homegrown wine and/or vodka and enjoy the beautiful scenery with family and/or friends.
Civil War Buffs?? Battles were fought just minutes away. Just a short drive (one hour) from Washington DC and Baltimore, it is a wonderful way to get away from the crowds and stay in one of the prettiest, most rustic mountain areas of the east coast.
If nature is not what you are looking for, there are shopping malls and movie theaters nearby. A few minutes more and you can sightsee at places like Gettysburg, Harper's Ferry, or one of many other great Civil War locations. The Washington Monument and the Baltimore Inner Harbor are just a short drive. We're centered between all of these places. There are three TV's, DVD Player, VCR, CD Players, and Computers. Also, there is a regulation Pool Table, Air Hockey, Foosball, Darts, and more to keep the young at heart entertained. The fully-stocked gourmet kitchen is right next to the Greatroom with a 23 foot tall stone woodburning fireplace and entertainment area. When it's cold outside, there is nothing like a roaring fire in our Log Cabin and there are tons of firewood for your enjoyment. There's even a grate so you can cook like the settlers did (kids of all ages love this). The large porch and grilling deck feature a spectacular view for simply relaxing.
