Lovely cottage with a great view
This property was an exceptional value. For a stand alone beachfront cottage with these amenities I was surprised and pleased at the cost. But even more important than the cost, it was a wonderful experience. The cottage has everything you could hope for--well stocked and so many special touches from fresh Hawaiian fruit to a celebratory bottle of champagne for my husbands birthday. It was a pleasure to be able to make breakfast each day in a well equipped kitchen (there was even gluten free bread in the freezer when we arrived--a welcome surprise.) There are books, games, many snorkel sets, a guitar, and even a surf board. There was a convenient full sized laundry set up that we used more than once after days at the beach. Also, there is a good sized secured yard with great parking--essential for us to load/unload and store our watersports equipment. We enjoyed the small beach across the street, but because of the rocky bottom and good sized waves we found swimming a bit of a challenge--better for surfing. I was concerned about the privacy of the cottage--always hard to determine from photos--it could not be better. It is a gated cottage set away from the road and away from any other houses including the main house which is well above you on the hill behind the cottage. Many of the prior reviews have described the hosts--and all of my email exchanges with Gail were lovely and she is a wealth of information. But honestly, I am more of a self-contained traveler who arrives in a location for a specific purpose--not one of those people that enjoys the engaging warmth of a B&B--more of a leave me be and I'll find my own way type. So I was a little nervous seeing the reviews of joining in on family parties etc. For others like me--let me assure you that while the hosts are incredibly welcoming and invite you via text/email to join them if you wish, they are in no way pushy and if you decline they give you all the privacy you want. It was the perfect blend for us and the mark of a truly good host who is able to gauge their guests and accommodate them. Thanks for a great start to our stay on Maui!

Charming and peaceful
The cottage was absolutely perfect for our needs, it was so well equipped that we needed for nothing. Would 100% recommend it to anyone looking for a great location with your own independence. Thanks to our hosts Gail and Jordan.

Relaxing like a Local
Gail and Jordan were perfect hosts. So friendly and hospitable. The cottage was clean and well stocked. Beautiful sunsets and nice calm morning listening to the ocean. Close to grocery and Target. We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. Very relaxing.

Cute Cottage
We had a wonderful time, owners were very helpful and were in contact with us before, during and after our vacation. The Cottage is cute, clean and in a very nice location right across the street from the ocean were we watched surfers and whales every day. Very convenient to the airport and short rides to many beaches. Thanks for the snacks and the pineapple, and even a few drinks in the fridge. Hope to be back soon.

We have passed rigorous inspections for your health and safety.
Escape the traffic and the touristy areas yet be right on the ocean watching sunrises and moon rises over the ocean, surfers, whales, windsurfers and kite surfers. Our location is central to all the places you will want to go and we are at your service to share our knowledge and love of Maui. We offer guests a chance to join our local friends at our BBQs or to join us for a swim in our favorite spots in Iao Valley, just a short drive away. Guests can also choose to just do their own thing or to book a more extensive tour with us. It's totally up to you.
The Space
Our cottage was built in 2012 and we welcomed our first guests in 2013. It has all appliances , comfy Serta bed, all-cotton bedding, pillows, towels, etc. Sliding mirrored doors separate the bedroom from main room. The cottage sits on the ocean below our upscale neighborhood and your only neighbor is a doctor on one side and us up the hill behind in the home we bought in 1999. If you are traveling with another couple, we also have a room with its own bath in the main house for rent and full use of the rest of the house.
My husband and I stayed in the cottage a couple of nights to check it out and make sure it is homey. The bed is so comfortable -- Serta mattress, plush mattress pad and new all-cotton sheets quilt and shams are wonderful!
Now with air-conditioning and Direct TV! And we have an AED in the main house, a Christmas gift from our son!
As much privacy or socialization as you like -- I stock it with coffee, tea and condiments and bread, bagels and butter in the freezer to get you started on breakfast. We provide you with snorkel gear, beach chairs, coolers, etc. and give you tips on good things to do and things to avoid.
Separate bedroom and bathroom has 2 doors so there is privacy if one person wants to sleep and the other stay up or get up. Plenty of room for two or for a family with a child who can sleep in a crib (available to rent from No Ka Oi Baby Rentals) or on the couch.
We can also refer you to friends who will give you local rates on activities such as water sports, downhill biking, used car rental and art gallery. We can give you each 3 day passes to the YMCA for classes, weights, racquetball or pool.
The area we are in is called 'Central Maui' because you can easily drive to everywhere else. Yet our particular location feels more like country with open beach and ocean in front and to the north. Be aware that there is no commercial business within walking distance but the beach and a golf course are there for pleasure walking!
Guest Access
Anywhere on the property.
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you like.
The Neighborhood
Our neighborhood is upscale, our neighbors really friendly owners -- we often have BBQs here with them and always include our guests if they'd like to join us. The beach is right across the road in front of the cottage and when the surf is big, it's great to watch the surfers there. When there's no surf, the beach is empty. We love it both ways! It's not a swimming beach but those are a short drive away and by staying here, one avoids the touristy, hot, dusty surroundings of the beach cities
Getting around
We have a bus system and Jordan and I can drop guests off on our way places but a car really is recommended as only tour buses go up into the valleys and up to the top of Haleakala.
Other Things to Note
We stayed in a B & B years ago in Switzerland and the women treated us like family and it had such an impact on us that we try to do the same and make our guests feel at home. On the other hand, you may want to just do your own thing and that's perfectly fine, too.
