This place is heaven on earth!
We absolutely loved staying at this house. The views will wow you everywhere you walk in this house. We decided to hault some of our sightseeing plans for the week just so we could enjoy this house more. There's nothing better than snorkeling everyday in the tidepools right across the street and then soaking in the hot tub afterwards! The coral gardens are amazing and completely out of this world. I have never seen coral in such pristine condition - layer upon layer of coral! We followed their instructions to take the corridor out to the coral gardens about an hour before high tide and were treated to some gorgeous sights out there. My new favorite place to snorkel! I rate it just as high as Captain Cook monument and Honolua Bay! My kids loved spending most of their time in the keiko pool as there were plenty of fish in this pool as well. They loved just floating around. Another favorite activity was feeding the hungry tilapia in the pond all of our leftovers. We did get visited by some of those annoying beetles, but once we learned to keep everything shut at dusk and keep all but one light off, it wasn't a problem. We loved the low-key vibe to this area, not touristy at all. We made sure to stock up on groceries on our way there so we only had to hit the grocery store a couple more times for a few things for dinners. We enjoyed Uncle Roberts, Kehena Black Sand Beach, Ahalanui, Champagne Pond, and biking the chain of craters road to view the lava entry into the ocean. All of it was truly magical!! I wanted to cry when I got out of the tidepools on our last day. I can't wait to come back to this amazing spot!

Swiss Family Robinson!
We felt one with nature at this incredible home! From the open-to-the-views design to the outdoor shower to the hot tub,, the relaxation was sublime! My daughter exclaimed when we walked in, it's like the Swiss family treehouse! We snorkeled each day, hiked in Volcanoes Park, visited the fabulous Uncle Robert's on Wednesday evening, and took peaceful walks around the neighborhood. This house had everything we needed in terms of supplies, snorkel gear and reef shoes. All we needed to bring was our groceries! We spent several nights in Puako, which was lovely too, but we all decided that we enjoyed the "rainy side" even more! We had perfect sunny weather. It only rained overnight once which just enhanced the coziness of the comfy beds! Kathy was wonderful with responding to my questions as we planned our trip. Rent this home! You will be so glad you did:)

Loved it.
We spent a week at Wai Opae tide pools in the Sullivan's home. And what a week it was! There were two of us and we enjoyed the house immensely. We would rise with the sun and watch the pools turn into mirrors, reflecting the clouds above. The early hours, before the onshore breeze became constant and the visitors arrived, were our favorite for snorkling and the hot tub was wonderful to slip into after being in the pools. The house design was perfect for us but I wouldn't recommend it for two couples because it's very open and privacy would be compromised. If you're a family and used to being in each other's business, it would work fine. We also loved the tilapia in the pool behind the home! They are voracious and a very convenient way to dispose of food scraps! The farmers market in the long house on Sunday is bursting with fresh produce, lehua honey, orchids, local eggs, baked goods and lots of aloha. Wow! Mahalo nui loa to Kathleen for making her home available for others to experience!

Our son is a Los Angeles Architect and he designed for us this beautiful oceanfront retirement home that looks like it is off the pages of Architectural Digest. The whole house has massive windows to take advantage of the 180 degree view of the Wai Opae Tide Pools. The house has bamboo, 23' vaulted, hand rubbed beam ceilings with floating globe pendants. There is a curved staircase with Mango steps that leads from the living room to the 2nd bedroom and on to the master bedroom and loft. One of the most spectacular things about this house is that it faces east and every morning the sun rises with awe inspiring colors while tinting the tide pools all shades of gold, orange and pink.
Our home has 2 bedrooms and a loft, 2 baths and sleeps 6. The Master bedroom is on the 2nd floor and is a loft room allowing the view of the ocean from the queen size bed. Whether it is a fast storm, a brilliant sunrise or the changing colors of the tide pools the view never gets old. There isn't a better place to sit back with a good book then up on the Master Bedroom lanai (deck) with comfortable chairs and endless ocean views. The master bathroom is very unique in that it has a lanai with an indoor/outdoor shower and a free standing deep soaking tub. The cabinets are made from Mango wood and the counter top is flamed black granite.
The guest bedroom also with a queen size bed and was designed so that it is five feet higher than the living room. The front wall is movable which lets the ocean view be the centerpiece of this room. There are floor to ceiling jalousie windows framing the bed and looking down on the back yard tide ponds For additional guests there are two single futons in an office loft above the master bedroom to make the home comfortable for 6 people.
The main bathroom has a tiled tub and shower combination with large windows. The resin sink has inlayed real sea shells and coral. There is a laundry area with full sized front loading washer and dryer and storage area behind bi-fold doors.
The kitchen is modern and has top of the line African Ribbon Mahogany cabinets with flamed and leathered granite counters. The appliances are new and include a side by side refrigerator with an ice maker that holds 10 lbs of ice. It also has a dishwasher and microwave oven and a large island with a gas stove and oven. The island looks out to the living room and the large lanai so the cook is never separated from the group. There is enough space in the Kitchen so that 4 people can work comfortably. The kitchen has a 'breakfast' Lanai with table and chairs - The perfect spot to have that morning cup of coffee while watching the sunrise. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything except your fresh food to prepare gourmet meals.
There are two sets of bi-fold doors in the living room; one faces the ocean and makes the ocean become a living wall of the house and the other doors open up on to the lanai providing a seamless transition from indoors to outdoors. After a busy day of snorkeling and sightseeing there are comfortable chairs and a place to put the feet up and relax while watching a 42' flat screen tv with roku and wireless internet.
Out the living room bi-fold doors opens to the lanai with a wood deck, outdoor couch, love seat and chair, bbq, ti ki bar and jacuzzi. The 600 sq ft lanai not only looks over the ocean it also overlooks the backyard which has a large pond that rises and falls with the ocean tide. The ponds are brackish (which means that they are a combination of fresh and salt water) and are home to a large school of Tilapia fish which love to be fed.
There are stranded bamboo hardwood floors throughout the house, mango custom cabinetry, unique floor plan and awe inspiring views which make this a perfect vacation home for anyone that wants to hear the waves, watch the whale’s jump, have world class snorkeling 40 ft from the front door and experience the most glorious sunrises imaginable.
