Home Description

Penthouse living - great ocean view, sunset side. Maui Vista complex, first building, top floor (elevator). Complex has three pools, six tennis courts and a hospitality desk for tours and trips. The unit is two bedroom, 1.75 bath. Downstairs bedroom is a king (pillow top Sealy), room has its own air conditioner (and ceiling fan. Upstairs loft bedroom has a Sealy Posturpedic queen bed (ceiling fan) and portable air conditioner - as well as the main air conditioner downstairs. Travertine flooring on the main floor, laminate flooring on stairs and upstairs area (cleaner and cooler). There is a couch downstairs in the front room with 6" bottom cushion, only sleeps one, and a single roll-a-way for a 6th. We changed out the futon for a more comfortable couch and added a couple of chairs to the living area...as well as a 37" flat screen to replace the older television. Maytag washer 8-cycle,and a separate dryer. Now a brand new kitchen, Dec 15, 2013!! New stove, dishwasher, light, cupboards, and a few additional cupboards -- solid granite countertops, extended for additional eating area. All the amenities: beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers, mats, even beach toys. We do not keep boogie boards or snorkel gear for quests because of the insurance laws. There are a couple of bikes in storage, but waivers need to be signed and prearrangement for storage key. There are plenty of dishes (not just four plates, etc.) blender for your tropical drinks, coffee maker, toaster, microwave. There are outside gas bar-b-ques on the main floor. We have hair dryer(s), ironing board, iron -- even a first aid kit. There are two televisions, DVD/VCR combo and a small collection of DVDs and videos, and books people leave. There is high-speed internet, and a computer and access for MagicJack (computer phoning). I have a lot of nice art work on the walls and, of course, the brass mermaid who resides in the front room. You can make a wish and kiss the wooden mermaid on the wall where she holds the pearl - I am told it brings good luck!

Area Information

We are directly up from Charley Young Beach. There are steps to walk down to the beach (and a shower at the top). Very light surf and a more secluded beach since you can't see it from the street. It becomes Kamaole Beach 1 (and the other side of the rock outcropping would be Kamaole 2 and 3). There is some great snorkeling at our local beach - around the Kamaole 1 where three turtles seem to reside, but my favorite is Ulua Beach, which is 10 minutes by car by the Grand Wailea. There is a little sign on the road that says Ulua Beach (just past the Rennaisance) and has two parking lots. Go early. Wind will pick up around 1:00 p.m. everyday and your snorkeling will be churned up. The Kihei Canoe Club is very close to Maui Vista - across from the grocery store and shopping center (6 blocks) as well as places to learn to surf (I took lessons there). Kihei is known as the "desert" side of Maui - although it looks green because of the watering. The good news if you want sun, this is the best place. Average rainfall is 5 inches. Southern California is 11 inches (I live in Hermosa Beach) - so even though there is occasional rain in Kihei, you have the highest likelihood of no rain!
