About The Area

SOUTH MAUI - OUR FAVORITE KIHEI and WAILEA are great for shopping, dining or "beaching". South Maui has it all, and DOLPHINS POINT MAUI is located in the heart of it - oceanfront on Kamaole I - a superb white-sand swimming beach, with direct access from the lawn to the beach!  It's warm and sunny, this is the place to be! If you're interested in Whale Watching, you'll find the WHALES mid October through late April or early May. You'll see them on the horizon almost every evening at Sunset right in front of the property. Our Beach - Kamaole I (AKA Charlie Young Beach) is a long beautiful white sand crescent beach that stretches one-third of a mile from point to point. Snorkeling is really only good here at each end of the beach and the white sand bottom in the middle makes it an ideal place to swim. It's considered one of the best beaches on all of Maui!   CENTRAL MAUI KAHULUI and WAILUKU are the main towns, and the center of commerce for the island. You'll find the main AIRPORT (OGG), QUEEN KAAHUMANU SHOPPING CENTER, WHOLE FOODS, TARGET, WALMART, and COSTCO (best food prices if you want to prepare some of your own meals). Also in Central Maui is the IAO VALLEY with the IAO NEEDLE, a great place for a hike. Driving east from Kahului is the town of PAIA - a throwback to the 60's, is just east of the airport and just to the south is PUUNENE (home to the SUGAR MUSEUM). As you head east out of Paia, you'll encounter HOOKIPA - the famous wind surfing destination, where you'll see world class wind surfing and board surfing (bring your binoculars and zoom lenses and ask someone to point you towards "JAWS" for a look at the death defying pros on 30' waves in the winter!). Also, look for the turtles which often take an afternoon siesta on the beach! You'll also find the world famous Mama's Fish House just before Hookipa.   EAST MAUI The famous "Road to Hana" travels east from Kahului to HANA, a sleepy & beautiful village reflecting Hawaii's traditional past. Its a wet and wild ride, but well worth the time (plan this as a day trip and pack a lunch - there are food trucks along the road, but only 1 or 2 restaurants). You'll find the famous "SEVEN POOLS" just outside of town; and if you're up for it, hike up (about 2,000 feet - but an easy grade) to the source of the pools - three beautiful waterfalls. The trail takes you through a bamboo rain forest and it's quite an experience! Remember - always take fresh drinking water - don't drink from the pools or the falls. Make sure you download the Road to Hana app, it will give you a GPS guided tour and a history lesson of the islands!   UP COUNTRY This is where you'll find the sweetest pineapples, the most exotic flower farms, and of course the HALEAKALA bike rides. This dormant volcano rises to just above 10,000 feet and offers a day of discovery for hikers or bikers. NASA sent the astronauts here to train before the moon walks! The towns of MAKAWAO, PUKALANI, and KULA climb the slopes toward the crater, and offer great spots for lunch or some "endless view" golfing.   WEST MAUI LAHAINA, KAANAPALI, NAPILI, and KAPALUA are all on the western shores of Maui. Here you'll find many of Maui's famous resorts. Across the channel are the islands of LANAI and MOLOKAI. Lahaina is the historic whaling port, and the Lahaina Walking Tour with a stop to visit with the local Artisans under the massive Banyan Tree is a great way to spend an afternoon. When you're at Whaler's Village, make sure you go upstairs to the Whaling Museum. If you're thinking about a luau - The Old Lahaina Luau is considered the best on the island, just make sure you book ahead.   MOKOLINI The Molokini Islet (aka Molokini Crater) is a protected fish and bird sanctuary. Here you can snorkel, dive, and bird watch; but only from a boat. No one is allowed on the islet without special scientific permits. But not to worry! There are dozens of boats which visit these waters daily. Here the fish are friendly and almost tame. Molokini is a great spot; however, we recommend that you snorkel right from the beach in front of our vacation suites! Anchoring both ends of our beach are lava outcroppings where you'll see a great variety of fish and the sea turtles which call Kamaole I home. Best of all - there's no charge!

I almost don’t want to tell you to stay here because then I will never get a reservation! But seriously, look no farther. Delightful caring hosts, perfect location, beautiful appointments, I will always stay here when on this side of the island (and why go anywhere else). Thank you, Jackie and Larry!

We stayed here with a group of 13 ranging in age from 7months to 84 over Christmas 2017 and we all loved it. The suites are perfect, all have some kind of view of the ocean. The sound of the waves at night and in the morning was so relaxing. The suites are well equipped with towels, linens, kitchenware, small appliances and even a few staples in the cupboards. we had a 7 month old and a 3.5 year old- a pack n play was provided and a blow up mattress for toddler- it was so great to not have to worry about where our kids would sleep. Onsite laundry, if needed.Free wifi, tv with plenty of channels, snorkel gear, sand toys, beach chairs and umbrellas are all provided. A beautiful lanai (patio) and bbq right outside your door, which we enjoyed a few times. The beach is outstanding-super clear water, its almost a like private beach as not too many people access it. Snorkelling we saw plenty of fish and sea turtles that was just a 3 min walk down the beach. There are some shops, restaurants within a 10 minute or less walk. The owners are very friendly and helpful :) I would recommend this to any group of any age or couple. We can't wait to return. thanks for a fantastic vacation

Dolphins Point - On the beach

We spent many weeks planning our 16 day Maui kayak/snorkeling holiday staying 6 nights Kihei, 3 nights Lahaini, 3 nights Hana and 4 nights Kihei. Kihei was the basis of the trip as it offered the better kayaking and snorkeling options. In Kihei/Wailea we looked at all accommodation options from very expensive to moderately cheap, from close to the beach to several blocks from the beach, from high end resorts to self contained, serviced and the like. We decided we wanted a self contained apartment/studio on the beach and walking distance to restaurants giving us the freedom to chose whether to dine in or out. Using Google maps we chose Kihei however quickly realized there was limited accommodation of this type that had direct beach access. We read the usual review sites and using Google maps decided on Dolphin Point. The accommodation included a quality bed/bedding, an open shower with pebbled floor that made you want to shower for hours, a fully kitted out kitchen, beach equipment (snorkels, masks, float devices, boogie boards, chairs, umbrellas, beach towels,++) available to borrow at no cost, washing & dryer facilities, direct access to the beach, 10 minute walking distance either along beach or road to plenty of restaurants/shops. We loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves. The owners were chilled out and only to easy to please. The location was ideal for kayaking needs. Yes we would stay here again. Highly Recommended.

Couldn't have asked for a better place!

Dolphins Point was the perfect place for our family of six! Larry and Jackie were spectacular hosts and provided us with everything we needed for the perfect week in paradise. We had access to our own private backyard beach and spectacular sea turtle snorkeling. Very nice, well kept rooms, kitchen, and bathrooms. This location was recommended to us by friends and we absolutely recommend Dolphins Point to anyone visiting Maui in the near future.
