About The Area

KIHEI and WAILEA are great for shopping, dining or "beaching". South Maui has it all, and DOLPHINS POINT MAUI is located in the heart of it - oceanfront on Kamaole I - a superb white-sand swimming beach, with direct access from the lawn to the beach!  It's warm and sunny, this is the place to be!

If you're interested in Whale Watching, you'll find the WHALES mid October through late April or early May. You'll see them on the horizon almost every evening at Sunset right in front of the property.

Our Beach - Kamaole I (AKA Charlie Young Beach) is a long beautiful white sand crescent beach that stretches one-third of a mile from point to point. Snorkeling is really only good here at each end of the beach and the white sand bottom in the middle makes it an ideal place to swim. It's considered one of the best beaches on all of Maui!

KAHULUI and WAILUKU are the main towns, and the center of commerce for the island. You'll find the main AIRPORT (OGG), QUEEN KAAHUMANU SHOPPING CENTER, WHOLE FOODS, TARGET, WALMART, and COSTCO (best food prices if you want to prepare some of your own meals).

Also in Central Maui is the IAO VALLEY with the IAO NEEDLE, a great place for a hike. Driving east from Kahului is the town of PAIA - a throwback to the 60's, is just east of the airport and just to the south is PUUNENE (home to the SUGAR MUSEUM). As you head east out of Paia, you'll encounter HOOKIPA - the famous wind surfing destination, where you'll see world class wind surfing and board surfing (bring your binoculars and zoom lenses and ask someone to point you towards "JAWS" for a look at the death defying pros on 30' waves in the winter!). Also, look for the turtles which often take an afternoon siesta on the beach! You'll also find the world famous Mama's Fish House just before Hookipa.

The famous "Road to Hana" travels east from Kahului to HANA, a sleepy & beautiful village reflecting Hawaii's traditional past. Its a wet and wild ride, but well worth the time (plan this as a day trip and pack a lunch - there are food trucks along the road, but only 1 or 2 restaurants). You'll find the famous "SEVEN POOLS" just outside of town; and if you're up for it, hike up (about 2,000 feet - but an easy grade) to the source of the pools - three beautiful waterfalls. The trail takes you through a bamboo rain forest and it's quite an experience! Remember - always take fresh drinking water - don't drink from the pools or the falls. Make sure you download the Road to Hana app, it will give you a GPS guided tour and a history lesson of the islands!

This is where you'll find the sweetest pineapples, the most exotic flower farms, and of course the HALEAKALA bike rides. This dormant volcano rises to just above 10,000 feet and offers a day of discovery for hikers or bikers. NASA sent the astronauts here to train before the moon walks! The towns of MAKAWAO, PUKALANI, and KULA climb the slopes toward the crater, and offer great spots for lunch or some "endless view" golfing.

LAHAINA, KAANAPALI, NAPILI, and KAPALUA are all on the western shores of Maui. Here you'll find many of Maui's famous resorts. Across the channel are the islands of LANAI and MOLOKAI. Lahaina is the historic whaling port, and the Lahaina Walking Tour with a stop to visit with the local Artisans under the massive Banyan Tree is a great way to spend an afternoon. When you're at Whaler's Village, make sure you go upstairs to the Whaling Museum. If you're thinking about a luau - The Old Lahaina Luau is considered the best on the island, just make sure you book ahead.

The Molokini Islet (aka Molokini Crater) is a protected fish and bird sanctuary. Here you can snorkel, dive, and bird watch; but only from a boat. No one is allowed on the islet without special scientific permits. But not to worry! There are dozens of boats which visit these waters daily. Here the fish are friendly and almost tame. Molokini is a great spot; however, we recommend that you snorkel right from the beach in front of our vacation suites! Anchoring both ends of our beach are lava outcroppings where you'll see a great variety of fish and the sea turtles which call Kamaole I home. Best of all - there's no charge!

Perfection in Paradise

We spent July 24-July 30 at Dolphins Point. During this timeframe we hosted our sons wedding and reception on site! We were so fortunate to have rented all three units to house our family members. Larry and a Jackie were incredible!! Larry helped us rearrange the main lanai area, gave us ideas and joined in our celebration!!! We were able to host 45 guests on site! Plenty of room, beautiful grounds, beach access. It was wonderful! If you are visiting Maui, want an amazing experience, stay with Larry & Jackie. You will not be disappointed!!!

We stayed here with a group of 13 ranging in age from 7months to 84 over Christmas 2017 and we all loved it. The suites are perfect, all have some kind of view of the ocean. The sound of the waves at night and in the morning was so relaxing. The suites are well equipped with towels, linens, kitchenware, small appliances and even a few staples in the cupboards. we had a 7 month old and a 3.5 year old- a pack n play was provided and a blow up mattress for toddler- it was so great to not have to worry about where our kids would sleep. Onsite laundry, if needed.Free wifi, tv with plenty of channels, snorkel gear, sand toys, beach chairs and umbrellas are all provided. A beautiful lanai (patio) and bbq right outside your door, which we enjoyed a few times. The beach is outstanding-super clear water, its almost a like private beach as not too many people access it. Snorkelling we saw plenty of fish and sea turtles that was just a 3 min walk down the beach. There are some shops, restaurants within a 10 minute or less walk. The owners are very friendly and helpful :) I would recommend this to any group of any age or couple. We can't wait to return. thanks for a fantastic vacation

All the amenities for family beach days in paradise

Our family rented all three suites at Dolphins Point and each one included everything needed for a perfect beach vacation. The kitchens were well appointed for meals at home or enjoying coffee/breakfast on the Lani. There are also great fish tacos just blocks away when we didn't feel like cooking. Beds are very comfortable and AC worked great when needed. Dolphins point provided all the beach toys and necessities needed for kids and adults alike. Everything from sand toys, boogie boards, to umbrellas and chairs were ready to go in front of each door step when we arrived. If you've ever taken kids to the beach, you'll know that prepping for a beach day can consume valuable vacation time and by the time you get there someone's inevitably tired, hot or has to go to the bathroom. Dolphins point has already removed all these vacation stresses for you. The beach access was truly steps away, but privacy is as simple as sitting down on the Lanai. The gated driveway was also great, and we felt very comfortable with the kids exploring the property without worrying about access to the street. Larry and Jackie were terrific hosts. We hardly knew they were there, but were always available for questions or locals suggestions. We hope to be staying there again soon.

Swaying palm trees, gental trade winds, and beautiful sunset are all yours at Dolphins Point.

We had a wonderful & memorable time staying at Dolphins Point. We were traveling with extended family so we rented all three vacation suites. All suites have distinct and different decor, tasteful, yet fun to be in and around. My personal favorite is the one bedroom unit. It was recently remolded what I like the most about this suite is that it has open floor plans with minimal walls and barriers and the new furnishings, understated elegance with a true Hawaiian flair . The lucky girls who arrived first quickly occupied this room. The two bedroom unit being central part of the house offers the best panoramic ocean view out of the three suites. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw the studio. It is very spacious for a studio and being the corner suite makes it the coolest suite of them all. But who wants to stay inside, really, when we have the ocean just steps away. I didn't count how many steps it took me before my bare feet touched the sand but my sisters, brother, and cousin, they grabbed the boogie board from the house and ran off to the beach. I've never seen them so excited and joyous. The Kamaole beach has the finest and softest sand I've ever laid my feet on and I was assured of this once I got to Waikiki. There's no comparison. Waikiki beach is really lame. My parents, uncles, and aunties didn't do much. They rested on the lawn chairs in the yard or went down to the beach and put up the umbrella and enjoyed the sun and the beers. At night, they would cook up a feast and we'd come home and hook up our camcorder to the TV and show them what we saw at Jaws, Molokini, and Paia. The owners Jackie and Larry are so gracious, nicest people I've ever met. We were a rowdy group and they were pretty cool about it so I couldn't thank them enough. By the way, we held our wedding ceremony on the lawn. It was a beautiful day. We are proud and happy that we had our wedding at Dolphins Point.
