Fantastic, loving, place to be!

Such a great place to start our Hawaiian adventure. We selected this place to use as we established our Hawaiian residency. Karen and Tim were extremely helpful providing us with, in addition to a fantastic place to stay, lots of local resources for both fun and entertainment, as well as establishing ourselves on the island. We're eternally grateful for there help and advice and, now, consider them friends. Mahalo!

Haven in Kona

What a wonderful spacious , clean and pretty place to Pretend to be a local. My hosts are highly involved in various health and wellness pursuits and that was an additional educational plus.

Wonderful vacation in Turtle house

We have spent three weeks in summer of 2014 in the Karen’s and Tim’s Turtle guest house in Kona, Hawaii. What a wonderful vacation we have had there! The great experience started long before our arrival – Karen was incredibly helpful with all kind of practical information and inspiration, writing us long mails for about half a year before our arrival. We felt as we knew her very well when we came! She and Tim have also made us feel very welcome by buying some food for us for the first night and waiting for our late arrival nearly at midnight. During our stay, we were always welcome to ask any questions, to get any advice, to use all the facilities, and our three teenage kids truly enjoyed the swimming pool and the jacuzzi. In general, expect for the location close to a traffic road, this comfortable house is perfectly situated high above the sea providing enjoyable air temperature and breeze all day long, with a very nice lanai facing the ocean with beautiful palm trees in the garden. We spent a lot of time there relaxing, playing games (given to us by our hosts) with kids, and appreciating our summer vacation. We covered about 1700 miles in 3 weeks visiting all parts of the Big Island and enjoying the contrasts between beaches and mountains, rain and sun, desert and forest. Our departure from the island was delayed by the flight cancellation, and our hosts were very kind and flexible, allowing us to spend an additional night even though next guests were arriving very soon. All in all, it was one of the best vacations we had, a big part of our delightful experience we owed to our host couple. Thank you, Karen and Tim. Best regards Anastassia, Jesper and kids Denmark August 2014

A Delightful Place To Stay

Upon arrival we were met by the owners who graciously showed us everything in the guest house rental unit. It was exactly as pictured in the listing. We had a lovely bedroom with a very comfortable king size bed and bath accessible from the bedroom. The second bedroom has twin beds with a bathroom accessible both from the bedroom and the hall. Everything was spotlessly clean and well-maintained. Our hosts provided a book on things to do on the Big Island of Hawaii and we found it very helpful. We stayed for 78 days and went somewhere almost every day. They were very knowledgeable about interesting places to visit on the island. We went to museums, beaches, farmers' markets, hotels and concerts. We joined the VFW while we were there and made many friends there plus having dinners and dances to attend. This VFW is open to everyone; you do not need to be a veteran of a foreign war or, in fact, a veteran at all. On the 3rd Sunday of the month, the village in Kailua-Kona closes the street to vehicular traffic in the afternoon so many booths can be set up by vendors selling a variety of merchandise. One booth is maintained by an organization called, "Friends of Bluegrass" who have several bluegrass bands playing throughout the afternoon. Many folks just stay there to listen. The abundance of free parking in Kailua-Kona is a plus. The best restaurant we went to was Huggo's. We were there for Christmas dinner and I had the best mahi mahi ever. If you go on a Wednesday, you get a discount. This is good because they are a little pricy. As our hosts suggested, we joined Costco and bought some groceries there. Mainly we used their gas station as the gas was substantially cheaper than elsewhere. The only drawback to this property is that is next to a main highway from Hilo and the noise of the trucks going up and down the hill is annoying. If you are staying for an extended period of time, I would strongly suggest having an interim cleaning done. We would highly recommend this property to all our friends and relatives.
