Beautiful - just like the pictures!

We had a great time in this property. It's just far enough from the hustle-bustle of shopping and restaurants to be very relaxing. We loved hearing the waves crash and had the doors open most of the time. Lots of fans for cooling, so it was never hot in the unit. The nice little beach is just a few steps outside the parking lot, but we spent most of the time at the pool. I have back problems, so the bed was a little too soft, but I found that the fold out couch was great! Supermarket is a short drive to the south. I would totally recommend this unit to my friends. Wide open ocean view

Right above the ocean, we watched what we called "fish walls" as we ate in the comfortable dining booth. The fish are swept up vertically in crystal clear waves that rise after hitting sloping lava reefs. The lanai has been enclosed and is part of the inside of the studio, so you can't step "out" on're already on, it's inside. It's a very efficient use of space of this former hotel, a few miles south of the touristy, crowded and expensive part of Kona. The unit on the left has a lanai that juts out, so those guests could peer right into your unit from the outer edge. Rolling down one of the split sun shades on the sliding windows ensures more privacy, but we kept it open to fully enjoy the expansive view of the gorgeous blue ocean. My mistake for not realizing from the photos that the unit is right above the BBQ and deck/pool area. Unfortunately, a large and inconsiderate group were talking and playing their music loudly right up until 10:00pm, the designated beginning of quiet hours. Thankfully the remaining nights were quiet, save for the constant thunderous crashing of the winter waves, which we marveled in. With no A/C, the sliding windows must be kept open for cooling, Kona is hot. Plenty of ceiling and floor fans provided. The waves on the small, pretty beach next to the condo were a little too choppy for morning snorkeling in March. In the afternoon, many happy locals were boogie boarding, but they know how to handle the stronger winter waves, which had an undertow that was too strong for us Mainlanders. 1.25 miles south is popular Kahalu'u Beach Park, an excellent and easily accessible snorkeling spot, one of the best on the island. The fish are tame and plentiful. Swim further out and there are pristine coral formations with resident eels (harmless if you leave them alone) and often turtles. This protected Bay makes for safe snorkeling all year round, has lifeguards and parking (get there by 10:00 am). No problem with ants, as we kept food sealed or refrigerated and throwing out wet garbage daily. The foam mattress topper is good for those who like softer beds. Washer dryer was a great rarity. Beautiful, updated kitchen was well stocked dishes, pots and spices and oil, left by previous tenants, as well as condiments in fridge. Appreciated the refundable Damage Protection Fee that many other VRBO rentals do not refund (I bypass those listings when deciding on rentals). Overall, a great value for an ocean front studio in Kona.
