Tierra Verde
Located only 5 minutes away from Holiday Island. home to world-famous Fort De Soto Park and its pristine beaches, trails and historic fort. Tierra Verde is celebrated for its waterfront views, boating community and local restaurants. Parents magazine named it America's best family beach. From Fort De Soto, take a ferry to Egmont Key State Park, an uninhabited (unless you count the scores of gopher tortoises and seabirds) barrier island at the mouth of Tampa Bay. Accessible only by boat, Egmont serves primarily as a wildlife refuge. A lighthouse that has stood since 1858 still guides ships past this island. Then head to the water for swimming, fishing, shelling and snorkeling.
St. Pete Beach
Just another short drive you reached St. Pete Beach. Voted Trip Advisor's No. 7 Beach in the U.S. in 2018, based on millions of reviews from travelers around the world, when you visit this magical expanse of sand, you’ll understand why.
St. Pete Beach’s shores include the longest undeveloped stretch of public beach in the county at Pass-a-Grille Beach. Live it up with a variety of water sports, from parasailing and stand-up paddle boarding to windsurfing and kite boarding. For lively diversions away from the shore, head to the Corey Avenue district. For over six decades, Corey Avenue has thrived at the heart of St. Pete Beach. There’s a variety of funky specialty shops, galleries, restaurants and more. Plan to spend an hour or an entire afternoon just on this stretch of town.
Clearwater Beach
Located a little farther away, take the scenic route along the Gulf of Mexico to Clearwater Beach. This drive is so worth it with all the different beach communities along the way. With hundreds of things to do on Clearwater Beach, the main attraction is still pretty much its near-perfect beach. Come visit and you'll see exactly why it was named No. 1 in the U.S. on Trip Advisor's list of Top Beaches for 2018.
For good eats and entertainment, you won’t be disappointed with a night of live music and dancing at buzzing establishments such as Frenchy's Rockaway Grill, Shepherd's Tiki Beach Bar and Grill and Palm Pavilion Beachside Grill & Bar. Your best bet for shopping in Clearwater Beach is at the Shoppes on Sand Key and the Surf Style store on Beach Walk. And the annual Clearwater Beach Uncorked Food & Wine Festival is one of the year’s most anticipated foodie events on the beach.
Experience Greek Culture in Tarpon Springs
The historic riverfront town of Tarpon Spring just an hour away from Holiday Island has a way of transporting you thousands of miles away to a coastal village in Greece.
After the discovery of natural sponge beds in the early 1900s, Greek sponge divers arrived in Tarpon Springs, a community at the northern end of the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area, to grow the now-famous sponge industry. The main attraction of Tarpon Springs became its famous Sponge Docks, which are set along the Anclote River. The Greek heritage is still strong here—if you’re even remotely of Hellas heritage, you’ll probably discover a cousin or two in this town.
