Ridgway is the northern entrance of the scenic San Juan Skyway, an All-American Road, which serves as a crossroad for commerce, transportation, history and scenery. The San Juan Skyway, one of the most spectacular roadways in the U.S., winds through unmatched scenery — it is a photographer’s dream.

Nestled in the picturesque Uncompahgre Valley and surrounded by majestic snow-capped peaks of the Cimarron and San Juan Mountains, Ridgway is the “Gateway to the San Juans.” The movies True Grit and How the West was Won were both shot in the area.

There are many activities for families to enjoy while they are in the area:

Historic/scenic driving, walking, hiking, biking, river rafting, kayaking, ATV and 4x4 jeep touring, hot balloon adventures, horseback riding, hot springs soaking, rock climbing, tennis (in Ridgway Town Park), golfing (The Divide Ranch and Club on Log Hill), in addition to camping, boating, fishing and walking in Ridgway State Park. Visit Mesa Verde National Park cliff dwellings; also take in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison with its spectacular canyon views and cool Gunnison River waters just east of Montrose.

Additionally, Telluride offers festivals almost every weekend of the summer season. Telluride has four waterfalls, high-altitude mining towns, the highest concentration of 14,000-ft. peaks in North America and the most high-altitude passes.

Colorful hiking includes fields of wildflowers that begin to bloom in June and peak in July, with yellows, reds and burnt orange color in late September and early October.

We offer full concierge services in summer and winter and would be delighted to arrange airport transfers, horseback riding, river rafting, guided hikes/walks, mountain biking, private chef, butler/home stocking services; in winter we offer concierge services to arrange ski/snowboard equipment rental fittings AT YOUR HOME, ski/snowboard instruction, snowmobiling, dogsledding, etc., etc.

Fantastic mountain retreat

If you are looking for a restful place to relax and enjoy mountain scenery uninterrupted by most signs of human habitation, this is for you. The house sits on a hillside surrounded by a pine and aspen forest with no other homes or structures nearby. It is very well designed and constructed, as well as immaculately furnished. The living area contains a wood burning fireplace and an elaborate entertainment center. It is fronted by large picture windows which overlook a patio (that extends across the whole front of the house) and provide a beautiful view of the next hillside. Also on the main floor are a well appointed kitchen, a lovely dinning room, and a bedroom/bathroom combo. The upstairs area is devoted entirely to the master suite. It is very spacious and contains a king-sized bed, a large closet and an exquisite bathroom layout, which includes an immense shower enclosure (with a view of the back hillside) and a large jet-spray type bathtub. We very much enjoyed the hot tub located on the patio which we found to be well maintained and ready to use. There is nothing like basking in a large tub of water at a temperature of around 100 degrees in the middle of a mountain forest. We also appreciated the owners allowing us to use the large attached garage. We found plenty of things to do during our week stay. Both Ridgeway and Telluride are within 20 minute drives. Also, there are many roads leading to hiking trail heads along highway 62. In particular, we recommend the Blue lakes trail at the end of the East Dallas Road off highway 62 near Ridgeway. Also, beautiful views of several mountain ranges are available a few miles from the house along road 60 X. In particular, you will be able to see Mt. Sneffels to the east all the way to Lizard Head and Mt. Wilson to the west.

Incredible!

We stayed for a week for our 25th Anniversary and it was by far the best decision we could have made. We thought about Europe, Hawaii and other more exotic places but we are so happy we chose Sky Mountain Ranch. The house is beautiful, top notch kitchen, state of the art TV with surround sound, super comfy bed and a master bathroom like no other - jetted tub and multi-head shower. And all of this in a fantastic setting in the beautiful San Juan Mountains! Sitting in the outdoor hot tub under the stars listening to some smooth Jazz was one of our favorites of the trip and roasting a few marshmallows by the fire pit was pretty good too. 5 minute drive to some of the most impressive mountain views you will ever see and then 20 min to Ridgeway for a great market or several places to eat if you want to get out. Ouray or Telluride are 30-40min drive in opposite directions. Several times we saw small herds of Elk and Deer. We will be back, maybe soon to see the fall colors. If you want to relax in a beautiful setting in a wonderful house/cabin and really get away from it all, this is the place!

Gorgeous home in beautiful setting

We love staying at Sky Mountain Ranch, it is a secluded property in 35 acres but an easy drive to Telluride, Ridgeway and Ouray for skiing, hiking, good food and entertainment. Anita's house is very welcoming, has all the home comforts and a few extras - nothing better than relaxing in the hot tub after a day in the mountains. Love the wildlife that is right by your door. Perfect for families. I know we will keep returning to this beautiful home.

Spectacular property with all the comforts of home

This being our first experience with a VRBO property, we couldn't have been more pleased. From the moment we pulled into the property welcoming us to Sky Mountain Ranch, we knew this would be a special place. Very secluded, yet close to the best that Telluride has to offer. Whether it be skiing, hiking or simply snowed in for a day, Frank & Anita's place makes you feel you're coming back to a mountain chalet. Amazing night skies and peaceful days on their 35 acres is the best detachment from the hustle of everyday working life. Nearly every comfort of home is provided, and Frank & Anita are quick to respond with any questions or concerns. We had an absolute blast, and can't wait to come back. I couldn't give this property a higher recommendation.
