Home Description

The cabin is situated on a beautifully tree'd lot, which has a lot of wild life. You enter the cabin thru an enclosed sun room, great for spending your mornings with a cup of coffee. This leads you to the large living room with a wood stove, which will keep you cozy on cold nights. The cabin has an updated kitchen and dining room. Two bedrooms on main floor, both have a walk out to the back deck. The master bedroom is enclosed with floor to ceiling windows, wake-up with the forest for a back drop. The town of Cripple Creek is an old gold mining town , still has the old west feel and casinos, fossil beds, has things for the whole family to do.

Cabin in the Woods

Pros- The cabin is closer to Woodland Park than where we have stayed in the past. About a 15 min ride into town. The living room area is spacious and the split bedrooms were great. The bathroom appears to be recently remodeled as well as the kitchen area. The kitchen is well stocked - no need in bringing anything other than food items. We had plenty towels for kitchen and bath. The cabin cooled off nicely at night and we enjoyed the quiet surroundings. It was convenient to have a washer and dryer onsite too. The inside of cabin on the main floor was nice and there was room if you had a bunch of stuff to bring in. Cons- The additional living area in the basement was creepy to me. We didn't use it other than to run one load of laundry. But if anyone is intending to use this area for guests I would use caution. It was musty and damp, one of the windows had a cracked pane, there were insects crawling around and the stairs are quite steep with no handrail. I wouldn't sleep down there. The rooms could use ceiling fans. Even though it cooled off at night, it did get warm during the day and a few ceiling fans would really help. The master bedroom needed some sort of blinds for the sky windows. It was very bright in the room when the sun rose. The master bedroom mattress had a very low spot on one side and a high spot on the other. It was uncomfortable and I think it is just worn. There was a nice bar area but no chairs to use that were tall enough. The exterior of the property could use some TLC. There was random stuff scattered around the back of the property. The deck had some loose boards that gave you a feeling that you would fall through when you step on them. It would also be nice to have some patio furniture. There is only an old picnic table with benches and a couple weathered bag chairs to sit on. The front porch entrance needed clean up and refinishing. Maybe small lights or nightlights would be a nice addition (inside and out). Not a major issue but it is pitch black dark at night. The Wi-Fi worked intermittently. This is likely not fixable by the landlord but it was annoying. We had to keep resetting the internet box to get it to work. You will NOT be able to receive a cell signal there. You must use the landline and the internet to communicate with anyone. Overall I think if a few items were repaired and some amenities added, this would be a great little cabin. Hence my "average" rating. Submitted: Jul 20, 2016 Stayed: Jul 2016 Source: VRBO, from HomeAway Owner's Response: The basement is not advertise as part of the cabin, do to it will need work. it is open because of the laundry room is in the basement. Yes the exterior needs work and will have been working on it between renters. I will look at the mattress but it is new. This a great cabin .

Great Get Away

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in February. We loved the open feeling that the living room has with the vaulted ceilings and floor to ceiling windows. The loft was an added bonus and had a great view. The bed we slept in was comfortable. The cabin was well stocked in the kitchen. I live in Denver, so this cabin is close enough for a quick get away.

Wanted to love it, but couldn't

Pros: -Beautifully remodeled upstairs interior - the beetle kill pine floors, slab granite, and fluffy carpets were lovely! -Close to Divide, Woodland Park -The king bed was very comfortable -Large kitchen for food prep Cons: -The kitchen was lacking for many items. Plenty of silverware, dishes, glasses, and an oddly excessive amount of pots and pans, but no real mixing bowls (save a small and small-medium one), very dull knives, and broken cutting boards. BYO Tupperware. -There are steps leading up to the cabin that clearly had not been shoveled in a while - the snow had become compacted and slippery. The back porch had also not been shoveled. -I wouldn't plan on having anyone sleep in the basement - it was really creepy and cold, with a cracked window and steep stairs. -The hot tub was very shallow - I am 5'6" and in the deepest seat, the water barely touched my collar bones. -There were also no steps into the hot tub, which made entry and exit awkward and difficult in the snow. -A large window in the neighbor's house directly faced the hot tub and the whole property is not as secluded as it appears in the photos. -Lack of curtains in the living room/kitchen made us feel like we were "on display" at night. -No curtain for the skylight in the master bedroom makes sleeping in difficult. -Even with the heat cranked up all the way, the bedrooms were still very chilly. -The living room, though beautiful, was not very functional. The furniture was spaced inconveniently far apart, but it was a quick fix with a little remodel. -Unlike most VRBOs that I've stayed at, they request that the dishwasher be empty rather than started and left. No problem there, but we woke up early to run a load and when it was done, the dishwasher had not cleaned anything off. We had to hand wash everything. They also request that you mop the floors when you leave (not really a "con," more just an oddity that I haven't seen with other VRBOs). -It would have been far more convenient to have an option to pay online, rather than waiting for paperwork to be mailed to you then sending in a check. Other: -I would recommend a vehicle capable of climbing steep, albeit short, hills. -The bar height is ridiculously tall - maybe five feet to counter height? Don't plan on eating there. We really wanted to love this place, but we just couldn't. It seems like a few adjustments could go a long way in making it better, but we won't be going back to find out. Submitted: Mar 17, 2016 Stayed: Jan 2016 Source: VRBO, from HomeAway Owner's Response: We are aware that the out side needs some work. But due to the weather and booking we were not able to get it all done. We have all new windows schedule to go in April. Sorry this was not the right place for them.
