You won't find another three-bedroom, two-bath cabin in a perfect location and amazing view at such a low rate in all of Big Bear! This spacious lodge-type property can sleep nine individuals comfortably. Just scan some 60 reviews of the cabin, and read how impressed our previous guests have been with their accommodations. Though located in a pristine section of Big Bear known as the Whispering Forest, far from bustling crowds, it is within a short drive to all of this mountain community's main attractions.
As you drive your vehicle up the gentle curves of Eagle Mountain Road, a 45-degree turn takes you to Green Mountain Drive. The view from this ridge road has been described as jaw-dropping by more then one guest. Near the end of the road you will find the Almost-to-Heaven Hideaway. The trails of the National Forest are within walking distance, but since you won’t find mention of this in any guide book, you can spend a full day discovering the area without running into another human being. Yet if you want to walk the quaint streets of Big Bear Village filled with dozens of eateries and charming shops, it’s only a 15-minute drive away.
We don’t ask for a ridiculously-high damage deposit either. Can you believe $100? It is totally refundable following your departure. The only thing high about the Almost-to-Heaven Hideaway is its location. Big Bear may be 7,000 feet above sea level, but in the Whispering Forest, the hideaway is another 1,000 feet closer to heaven -- hence its name.
But we mortals still have to eat and sleep; here is the perfect cabin where you can do both in style. Almost-to-Heaven Hideaway provides the rustic atmosphere guests seek in a mountain home, but also offers the conveniences one expects while on vacation. The kitchen contains a large refrigerator with ice maker, a microwave oven and a dish washer. Tucked behind shuttered doors in the hallway closet is a washer and dryer. The thermostatically-controlled central heating system keeps the cabin toasty warm, no matter how chilly the evenings become. It adds more heat to a roaring fire in the wood-burning, natural-rock fireplace in the great room. If you have to stay connected with the outside world, WiFi is included, of course.
In addition to its custom stone fireplace, the great room contains a large-screen television, DVD player and a massive varnished log slab breakfast bar that lets the chef enjoy the inspiring view while preparing a meal. That spectacular 180-degree view of both the Bear Mountain and Snow Summit peaks can be seen from the great room and master bedroom, while the two bedrooms on the lower level offer forest views. The entire south wall of the main floor is composed of sliding glass doors, which lead to the back deck that runs the full length of the cabin -- the perfect spot to watch birds soar through the trees during the day, and the stars at night.
Adjacent to the great room is the vaulted master suite containing a queen oak sleigh bed; a large, mirrored walk-in cedar closet; and a second flat-screen television and DVD player. Downstairs the other two bedrooms are separated by the second bath. One bedroom contains a queen iron bed and the other holds a set of full bunk beds that can accommodate two adult couples or four giggling youngsters.
There’s a fenced back yard if you want your pups to get some outdoor exercise, and a barbecue on the back deck. There is no additional pet deposit. Because the Almost-to-Heaven Hideaway is tucked away on a dead-end road, it's rare that you will even hear the sound of a passing car.
