Area Description

A pleasant walk from Oasis Villa to the small picturesque Uzumlu village. The name of the village translates as "place with grapes", and the village even has a wine bar where you can try the local wine, recommended for food as well.

There is a superb choice of restaurants in close walking distance to the villa, therefore ensuring no one has to drive especially when a 500ml Efes beer is around £2, significantly cheaper than tourist locations. Additionally there is a dolmus (bus) stop close by the villa with regular buses to Fethiye and beyond. A car is handy but not essential due to the frequent services of the dolmus.

Although Uzumlu's beauty attracts a number of tourists, the village remains a traditional Turkish working village, retaining the original charm of Turkish rural lifestyle. The locals are known for their hospitality, and many women will gladly show you their cotton weaving as they sit and work in front of their homes. Eddie's place is a great bar which offers live music on selected nights, his expansive menu to suit all tastes is excellent. For a real feel of Turkish cuisine and life try the secret garden.

Uzumlu is surrounded by fields of cotton, barley, sesame, wheat and seasonal vegetables. Almonds, apples, pears and olives are grown higher in the mountains. You can easily get a taste of Uzumlu's organic agriculture – the village has a lively weekly market full of fresh fruit, spices and other goods.

The central village square is a place where you'll find a mosque, tea-houses, shops, a post office, and a regular minibus service that can take you to Fethiye and Calis Beach.

Fethiye
Fethiye is a large and lively harbour with a marina and promenade. Every Tuesday is market day this is a huge traditional Turkish market great for stocking up on your herbs and spices, you will never seen a market like it. A must for locals and tourists with a great mix of exotic spices, teas, fruit, vegetables, designer handbags, jeans and jewelry. Great if you like to haggle. The fish market is great to pick your fresh fish then take it to the surrounding restaurant of your choice to be cooked. (Delicious)
Calis beach Has a lovely promenade with may restaurants and bars along the sea front, many bars will serve you cold drinks on your sunbed whilst you relax and work on your tan
