Home Description

Creaky staircases and antiques everywhere; this historic house is ideal for big family gatherings. Children can roam free - get exploring!

On the edge of a pretty village, this grand 1900s English style stone house stands proud. Its green tree-flanked grounds are dotted by terracotta-roofed outbuildings; some are being converted into gorgeous little villas. Children have a free run of the grassy land – great for games of cricket or tag in the afternoon. Meanwhile, grown-ups can enjoy the original Chester sofa and range cooker, admire French antiques and have a tinkle on the piano in the living room. Bedrooms are upstairs, each in a different nook of the house, all speckled with original pieces: iron bedsteads, battered books, rugs, dark wooden furniture. They have echoes of the faded grandeur of 20th-century family life even today, as do bathrooms, which Selina has deliberately kept in the original style. The Bustamante family were originally inventors, then soldiers, and their history permeates through photos of forefathers. There's a sense that here time has stood still. Perfect for a big family get-together; spend the week exploring the house and local area on foot – there are some fabulous walks.
