HILLSIDE, is a beautifully restored stone-built country house with one acre of gardens located in the quiet village of Taiao on the slopes above the historic fortress town of Valença..The perfect getaway setting for a peaceful holiday in the lovely countryside of the Minho Valley between Spain and Portugal or just to completely relax enjoying picturesque views, lovely gardens, tranquil surroundings and the warm hospitality you always look for in every "B&B".
Discovering a country house in ruins on the edge of a small village on the heights above the River Minho in Valença inspired us to purchase the property and commence a careful renovation, respecting its traditional structure but with a wholly contemporary style. The original walls are now incorporated within the extended house, contrasting with the softer tones of wall-papered or painted walls to harmoniously blend old times feel with modern design and amenities.. Our Discovery is now ready to be shared with both family and guests.
The house has two guest rooms with private access which may also be used as a family suite. The in room facilities include en-suite or private facilities, central heating, TV, wi-fi and tea/coffee making facilities. They share a large and comfortably furnished porch with views over the gardens, valley and surrounding countryside.
The extensive gardens offer a multitude of nooks to enjoy from the formality of the lounge and pool patios with chill-out included, to herb gardens, rock and heath, Woodland and even a hidden wild-life pond.
The area offers spectacular views over the Minho Valley and “Hillside” is an ideal centre to explore the beautiful border lands of the “Lower Minho” with fascinating towns and villages such as Valença and Tui, Monçâo and Salatierra or Caminha and A Guarda reflecting the different cultures and their shared history or the cotrasting scenery of the Atlantic and “Rias Baixas” coasts with their inumerable beaches.
