Dutch Farmhouse

Details

Home Description

Originally this house was a farm and is now used as a residence. This type of farm is a hay farm house distinguished by the distinct features on the outside of house, barn and hayched.

The farmhouse dates from around 1680 where fishermen were forced to be farmers after pumping all the water out and make it into farmland. They used 110 mills in the Schermer to do this..

About 25 years ago the farm was completely demolished and authentically rebuilt. The contractor - at that time the current owner - has

received an award in the way the farm was built and the farm is listed as national monument.

The view from the house is unique with beautiful views over the Eilandspolder. Completely in the distance you can just see the churchtower of West-

Beemster, part of the municipality of Beemster. The Beemster with its unique allotment is an special area which now stands at World Heritage list.

Personally we find the Eilandspolder prettier since the polder pragmatical still in original condition and no allotment has been applied. In addition, this is a unique breeding ground for grassland birds. Swallows - in many farms, it happens that swallows their nests

build up between the tiles. Again, that's the case, you will notice that at the sunset of the evening many swallows flying around the house looking

for food. The lower the swallows fly the better the weather. The fact that nests under the tiles are there is audible in the upper hayched in the bedroom.
