Hacienda at ElCuyo in May

We had a lovely stay at El Cuyo. The beach is wonderful, and the unusual and pretty house (we stayed in the lower apartment of the Hacienda) is in an idyllic location with the beach as your back garden.. The inside of the house we felt needed some love - cupboards all needed a good clean inside - as did other forgotten corners. (Whilst the mountain cabin style dark woodwork is pretty, it attracts cockroaches and other beasties, so keeping corners and cupboards crumb - free and clean is even more important.) Cleaning equipment provided was inadequate - there should have been a mop and indoor and outdoor brooms and dustpan and brush at the very least (a vacuum cleaner would have been a real luxury!) - this is doubly important when there are kids around with spillages etc.. I think I would be right in saying that most houses would consider it standard to provide salt / pepper / some basic condiments in the kitchen - this house had none. There was just about enough toilet roll to get through the first night. Finally can I recommend that the owner provides a little 'bible' of the house - just to know local emergency numbers / a map /basic local information like where to get water / pharmacy etc..Luckily I speak Spanish so I could ask the caretaker or other local person - but I would have been completely lost if I did not speak the language as the caretakers spoke no English. Overall - an idyllic spot and a romantic little house with so much more character than the faceless white apartments that dominate the coast. With some love and attention to detail and a bit of generosity with the basics - this is a lovely place to stay,

Lovely Villa at the beach in perfect Colonial Styl

In the last march i spend a very, very niche time with my girlfriend at The Villa from Mattias in El Cuyo. The House ist very comfortable, clean and lovely. The area ist absolutly quiet and there are not so many tourist. The House in perfect colonial style direct at the beach. In the most time you have the beach complete for your own. The owner offered uns also a Vw-käfer-car to rent, so we could make nice tours around. We visited all the nice places of yucatan and traveled many miles.. it was a great holiday for us. We spend three weeks at the place, an we will come back as soon as possible !!

Perfect for a Very Quiet Getaway

The property was excellent. It has the perfect location on the white sand beach and was just what we were looking for. El Cuyo is small and quiet but that is good for a quiet vacation. Caretakers were great. They were very helpful but also unobtrusive, allowing us to just lounge about and relax.

We enjoyed Hacienda del Cuyo, and we will be back.

The Hacienda of del Cuyo is a very nice vacation home, directly on the beautiful and secluded beach 2 hrs 45 min away from Cancun in a village called, El Cuyo. It is by far the most beautiful house in the area . We had the penthouse apartment for our stay. The penthouse is very spacious (approx. 80 m ²) and has offered us (2 persons) more than enough space. In the kitchen, everything is there, there is a cosy sitting area with Sony Home Theater (TV + surround sound system), the balcony is large and contains a nice sitting and dining area The bathroom is large and it has even a bathtub next to the shower. the house and the grounds were all very clean. To the beach you just go down and around the House and you can enjoy the beautiful beach with its white sand and the quiet sea. there are more than enough lounge chairs and there is even a small fireplace. Overall, it is a dream spot for all who want to spend a quiet beach vacation away from the crowded beaches off Cancun and the Mayan Riviera in a beautiful and safe area like El Cuyo. We've got a lot of good infos from the Landlord , and if we had any questions, he was immediately available Whatsapp or email. We will come again, thumps UP!

piece of heaven on earth

We had a wonderful Family reunion in El Cuyo at Hacienda del Cuyo...for the 3rd time already. Year after year, the owner adds something to the property to make it even more cosy and quaint. We flew into Cancun, rented a car, did some grocery shopping in Walmart and drove the 2,5 hrs to El Cuyo. The caretaker Magally was greeting us upon arrival and shortly after that we enjoyed our first Margarita on the beachfront terrace. This year we noticed that the home got a fresh paint job inside, the staircase outside was remodeled in mexican Talavera Style, all 3 beach terraces got new tiles in colonial Hacienda look and the bathrooms had also nice Talavera Ornaments since we last visited in 2013. Its obvious that the owners take good care of the Place and you notice the love to detail everywhere. We swam in the ocean, collected seashells, saw dolphins, did the Whaleshark tour over in Holbox, rode around in Golfcarts, checked out the newly built Fishing pier with pedestrian, you can buy fresh fish from local fishermen there, very inexpensive. Also we did a day trip to the Chichen Itza and Ek balam ruins, and the colonial town of Valladolid with its famous Tequila factory. We felt again very safe, and the locals are so friendly and helpful, and cant do enough for you. The caretakers prepared us delicious lobster meals,( i will add some fotos)..and we only went a few times into the small restaurants of El Cuyo that had local mexican flavor. We loved it again what can we say. And in comparison to Cancun or the Mayan Riviera,..very refreshing and off the beaten track, we will be back!

relaxing from the first second on

My family joined in while we travel the Americas and we chose to take a break at the Hacienda el Cuyo in el Cuyo. The contact with the owner was super friendly and he always replied within a few hours. The house is beautifully kept and is well worth the money. To sit on the terrace and just look at what is around you makes you think you are in paradise. We had bought groceries on our way up and never had to leave the house for the whole week. Fish and seafood could be bought from the housekeeper. Also anything else one could need would be availabel through him. We were so happy during our stay, going in and out of the water, relaxing, peacefully laying in the hammock or in the beach chairs. It is worth to pay the extra money to be in the beach front property! it is true that it is secluded, but we knew about that and WANTED it that way. The only negative point is, that upon arrival we could not show a printed version of the confirmation, so we weren't given some of the things that are -from our reading in their information booklet- included. But since we are long term travellers, we had everything with us in our car. If one should really need an internet connection while there, check with the owner that the stick is available, when we were there, someone had rented it. The property, the staff, the location, the fresh seafood, the weather, the beach, i can't recommend it highly enough, it's heaven!

Nice appartement in El Cuyo

The appartement was clean, very nice and located at the beach with a beautiful patio from where we had a georgeous view over the ocean! El Cuyo is small and quiet and the best place if you only want to relax. We barely have seen some tourists there. But buy your foodstuffs before you go there, there are only small shops with a very small range of everything. And keep enough cash with you, there is no aTM around. The beach is quiet, you only see birds (many pelicans and seagulls) and a some walkers. But you have to know that the beach is natural and because of absent tourists there is nobody to clean it up. That did not bother us, we like it natural and quiet. Matthias is a nice guy and a perfect host - he asked frequently if everything is ok and he informed us about bad weather activities. It was nice to meet him and his family. We also had one of his rental cars (VW Käfer) to explore Yucatan including a cell phone in case of emergency. We felt very welcome and enjoyed our vacation! Thank you, Matthias! We hope to come back one day!

Swimming with the Dolphins in El Cuyo

Swimming with Dolphins in El Cuyo" We just got back from a family weekend in El Cuyo. We were there several years ago, and we rented the same house, which has been upgraded and now has 3 levels. The directions Mattias (the German Owner ) gave us were perfect! It is our daughters 18th birthday, we asked her what she wanted to do, and she said, " let's go to El Cuyo"! The beach was amazing,..the sunrise looked like a huge orange ball in the sky. The water was perfect for swimming, and we were lucky enough to see dolphins while we were swimming. We had the beach to ourselves. Lots of seashells if you like to beachcomb. The Caretaker Magally and her husband were very attentive and even cooked fresh fish for us one day. The house was very comfortable, we were 7 in total and could have invited more. The kitchens on both floors were fine for our needs, and there is even a nice fire pitt on the beach for a bon fire, we did that too. There is plenty of private terrace space, with great breezes from the sea., we even rented a golf cart one of the days, but most important we spent quality family time. On our way home we enjoyed seeing the flamingos, and driving through the local villages. l Cuyo, we will be back for sure; Thanks Mattias and Family for renting us your Vacation Home

Lovely Stay in Tranquil Beach Town!

We had a wonderful trip to El Cuyo, and I was able to fully unplug and recharge from my normally demanding work schedule! I went with my husband, my parents, and my sister and her family for about 10 days of fun in the sun, snorkeling, and visits to nearby Mayan ruins. The beach is pristine--not clogged with seaweed and hundreds of people like the Cancun area--and the small town has a relaxing, friendly vibe. The town is very safe and it's easy to get to if you rent a car or take the bus. The house is clean and well located, with a perfect view of the beach from the back door, where we often spent time on the outside terrace. Magally, the housekeeper, and her husband Cristian, who helps maintain the house, are very nice and stop by daily to check to see if you need anything. When we had a minor confusion about the air conditioning, they were quick to help us out, and they brought extra towels and other things we requested. This is also an ideal location for going on a variety of excursions, such as to see the nearby whale sharks. We went out to Isla Holbox and did a day excursion where we snorkeled with whale sharks, saw manta rays, sea turtles, and other incredible wildlife. El Cuyo is basically located in the middle of a nature preserve, so you'll likely see flamingos as you drive across the bridge to enter the town, and we saw dolphins frequently while we were there. My sister and her oldest son went on a morning fishing trip arranged by Cristian, and caught 5 or 6 large fish, which we cooked one evening. We also took day trips to Ek 'Balam (mayan ruins), Chichen Itza (UNESCO world heritage site/mayan ruins) and to swim in some of the cenotes in the area. Overall, the vacation was incredible and it is ideal for travelers who want unspoiled beaches in Mexico without leaving the comfort and safety of the Yucatan Peninsula!
