Christmas at Star Apple House Jamaica
KRISTA W. Visited in December 2016 I can't begin to express how great our stay at Star Apple was. It was our home away from home. My family (2 adults and 3 kids between ages 21-26) and I spent 10 days at this house celebrating Christmas, a birthday, and New Years Eve. It was truly the perfect holiday vacation. Before our trip, Robert, the owner, was very helpful on setting us up with a driver, things to do, advice on the house, the country, and everything else. He coordinated a driver from the airport to the house where Pansy, the chef, and Michael, the butler, were waiting for us. Star Apple is a lovely house perched halfway up a mountain in Great River overlooking the rainforest and Montego Bay. It is a gated and safe community with several beautiful homes on the way up. The house is spacious, yet cozy with an open-air concept. There is a huge back porch where we ate all our meals and a comfy set of table & chairs on the other end of the porch for just hanging out or reading. We spent a lot of time outside on the back porch or by the pool (which gets a lot of good morning/early afternoon sun). At night, be sure to go outside by the pool and look up at the sky. The stars are incredible and very visible since the house is on a mountain. Every morning we sat down to a beautifully set table by Michael and had breakfast prepared by Pansy. We planned most of our days in the mornings and let Micheal and Pansy know if we would be eating lunch and/or dinner at the house. Our days varied with breakfast everyday, lunch a few times, and dinner about 5-6 times during our stay. Pansy is an excellent cook serving up delicious Jamaican cuisine (her specialty is chicken), though she will cook you whatever you want. We went to the grocery and bought a bunch of food and she took the reigns from there. A few things we did while in Jamaica: We spent a few days at Half Moon Beach Club where you can get a weekly membership. They serve drinks, lunch, and have a very nice atmosphere. It is about a 20-minute drive from Star Apple. One day we went sailing with Carolyn from Lark Cruises. We highly recommend this excursion. We learned so much about the Jamaican culture from Carolyn and were able to go snorkeling and sail all around Montego Bay. One day we went to Bob Marley's tomb in Ocho Rios. This was a far drive, but definitely worth the trip! One thing I would like to note about our stay - we traveled to Jamaica in December. The weather was very pleasant (not too hot) so we kept the doors open most days. Since this house is an open air concept and most time is spent outside on the back porch, we definitely recommend bringing and wearing bug spray. We hope one day we will be back in Jamaica and get to stay at Star Apple again. It was an incredible place to stay!

Area Information
Located on the Great River private estate in Reading, a 20 minute drive west of Montego Bay on the coast road to Nigril and just 7 miles from the International Airport, we are 4 miles from down town Mobay as the locals call it. This is Jamaica's second city but whats great about it is how compact it is ! The action as far as visitors go centers around the "Hip Strip" where you'll find great night life, bars and restaurants etc , plus a lovely managed beach. . You will go through Bogue just outside of Mobay and here you'll find high end supermarkets, pharmacy, Multiplex movie house, stores, gas, food court etc.
Closer to home our nearest village is Hopewell... a real Jamaican local village... located a couple of miles up the road from us and near the exclusive Round Hill Hotel, Spa & Villa complex (This is where JFK & Jackie honeymooned !)..Round Hill is well worth a visit if only for the Friday night dinner on the beach and floor show but you'll have to book !
3 miles the other side of Hopewell is the loacation of the Tryall Club. Perfect for Golf, and Tennis as well as a great beach. We love it here ! and then of course on to Negril with its 7 miles long beach. your stay in Jamaica should include a day trip here.
We could go on, but the best way to experience it all is to book your flight and come and stay with us, our staff have years of experience to make you feel as home away from home !
