Historical memories and natural panoramas, medieval views and Renaissance villas blend into a single landscape surrounding Asolo. Nestling gently in the contours of the surrounding hills, Asolo is crowned with the soft, warm shapes of a Mediterranean scene of olive groves, vineyards and cypresses.

Asolo is a spectacular, medieval village called the 'Pearl of Veneto’ offering a variety of cultural and artistic amenities in an area of outstanding natural beauty: for centuries it has been frequented by illustrious figures, such as Gabriele D'Annunzio, Eleonora Duse, Giosuè Carducci, Robert Browning, Ernest Hemingway, Henry James, Hugo von Hofmansthal, Freya Stark, Arnold Schoemberg and many others.
Asolo is close to some of the most beautiful world-famous Palladian Villas and is strategically located near important cities such as Treviso, Venice, Padua, Vicenza and Verona.
Thanks to its fine cuisine and excellent wines (don’t miss the ‘Colli Asolani Wine Road’!) it is also the perfect destination for wine and great-food lovers.

Set in the main Piazza (square) of Asolo, this perfectly restored property has mantained intact its spirit of authenticity in the 18th Century frescoes and 'marmorini' as well as in the unique pieces of furniture.
It is composed of a huge salon and a dining area, a modern and fully equipped kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, homemade jam..), one additional 'sala'/bedroom, two double bedrooms, one dressing area, two bathrooms, a laundry (with washing machine & dryer). A storage is also available for bicycles and golf equipments, and free wi-fi connection is provided throughout the building.

Together with its spectacular surroundings, Asolo is a must-see destination set in one of the most interesting historical and artistic parts of the Veneto region. In the sixteenth century, with Veneto’s architect Andrea Palladio (1508 – 1580) a new type of mansion was born: the temple-villa.
His revolutionary architectural design has influenced the world, having a profound impact on the architectural style internationally, particularly in England and in the USA, through architect Alexander Jackson Davis: clear examples are the White House and President Jefferson’s home Monticello at Charlottesville, Virginia, which is the only historic house in the USA on the United Nations' World Heritage List.

In Veneto, those elegant mansions were built over a couple of centuries, between the 1500s’ and 1700s’. In the 1500’s, aristocrats and wealthy merchants from Venice started a new trend: the building of elegant farmhouses-mansions in the countryside and the hills of Veneto, particularly in Asolo, in order to both escape the city life and to better manage their farming business.
Unlike the previous gothic style, the inspirational motif of the ‘Renaissance’ period was Palladio’s architecture, with its careful pursue of aesthetical harmony and classical symmetry.
Thus, Asolo and its immediate surroundings are full of fascinating Palladian mansions and architectural treasures to be discovered: just to give an example, ‘Villa Scotti-Pasini’ in the city center, ‘Villa Barbini Rinaldi’ at CASELLA D'ASOLO and ‘Villa Barbaro’ at MASER, a masterpiece by Palladio attracting tourists from all-over the world.

In ALTIVOLE it is worth mentioning the ‘Barco della Regina Cornaro’, the country residence of the former Queen of Cyprus Caterina Cornaro, built at the end of the 15th Century, adorned with beautiful gardens, hunting grounds, canals and watergames.
Just few minutes away, in SAN VITO di Altivole, stands the monumental Brion Cemetery, an impressive architectural masterpiece full of meanings and contrasts, designed by world-famous Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa.

At FANZOLO ‘Villa Emo Capodilista’ is another Palladian masterpiece set in the countryside of Treviso, whose frescoed halls and well-kept gardens are a must-see for visitors.

POSSAGNO is also very easy to reach: it is the home of the neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova, where his birthhouse and the ‘Gipsoteca’ temple can be visited in a truly inspirational environment.

Few minutes away CASTELFRANCO VENETO is renowned for being the birthplace of the famous painter Giorgione. Within its spectacular medieval walls, the ‘Museo Casa Giorgione’ allows visitors to explore the history and evolution of the town under the influence of this artist, while the nearby Cathedral (‘Duomo’), built on project of the famous architect F. M. Preti (drawing clear inspiration from the Redentore Church in Venice designed by Palladio), houses a magnificent altarpiece by Giorgione and other important frescoes by Jacopo da Bassano, Veronese and Palma il Giovane.

BASSANO DEL GRAPPA is also very close: it is a medieval city well-known for its pictoresque wooden bridge, the ceramic stores and the wine bars where to taste the traditional distillate of the city: the ‘grappa’. This (highly) alcoholic beverage has been made in the town's distilleries since 1779, when the ‘Nardini’ factory (still one of the most renowned, along with ‘Poli’) was founded.
Besides its centenary-old distilleries, the city is mostly renowned for Palladio’s ‘Ponte Vecchio’ (Old Bridge), probably one of the most famous symbols of Italy: architect Andrea Palladio was commissioned to design it in 1569.
Bassano is noteworthy also for the ‘Museo Civico’, one of the most ancient in Veneto, hosting over 500 paintings from the 13th Century to nowadays, and a collection of 8.522 extremely rare ancient prints owned by the Remondini Family, a flourishing dynasty of printmakers operating in Europe since the 17th Century.
Other museums: ‘Museo della Grappa’ (showing the techniques of distillation and displaying old alembics and machineries); ‘Museo della Ceramica’ (in Palazzo Sturm, it is dedicated to the main traditional handicraft production of Bassano del Grappa, i.e. ceramics); ‘Museo degli Alpini’ (displaying war relics).
For the lovers of Nature and centenary trees, the lush Parolini Garden is a botanic park with monumental plants, that was established in 1805 by naturalist Alberto Parolini.
From the 12th Century ‘Castello Superiore’ (Upper Castle) it is possible to admire a breathtaking panorama towards the ‘pianura’ (plain) as well as to the mountains, especially the massive Monte Grappa, on the top of which stand the ‘Monumento Ossario’, a powerful memorial dedicated to the end of the world war, the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery and Museum.

Few minuets away from Bassano, towards Vicenza, stands MAROSTICA with its stunning human Chess Game. This famous game is the ultimate expression of a local tradition and a magical moment for this town, that is also known as the ‘City of Chess’.
It is a medieval re-enactment taking place every two years in the Chess Square, opposite the Lower Castle. It takes its cue from a legend: it is said that in 1454 two noble warriors were both in love with Lionora, the daughter of the Castellan of Marostica. These warriors were forbidden to fight a bloody duel and a singular chess game was played instead.
This live performance takes place on the second Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the month of September, involving more than five hundred players dressed in historic costumes.

Towards Padua, CITTADELLA is a small fortified town surrounded by impressive city walls. This truly medieval jewel has an oval centre embraced by an intact defensive wall with 32 towers and 4 gates, built in the 12th Century.
It is definitely worth a walk in the historic center within these spectacular city walls.
