Having been a 'Palazzo-Fortilizzo', you will at once notice the imposing and impressive stone structure, with walls that can reach thicknesses of over 3mts in some places.
Setting foot inside Palazzo Scagliae, you will admire the handmade XV Century terracotta tiles which give the building warmth and a unique character ? each tile is different! To the left, you will notice the older part of the structure, dating as far back as the XIII Century. Look carefully at the original fireplace in the kitchen, and you will see the date 1186 scratched into its surface. To the right, the building takes on a different look - this is the XVI Century part of the building, with vaulted ceilings, rose coloured stones and many stone arches. Take the stairs directly in front of you and you will come across the remnants of the original rain water collection system, and below the actual lime clad storage tank. In the lower floor you will see the original stone mill and impressive stables with large arched glass doors giving onto the terrace and hot tub area.
