The Architect’s House is a jewel of a villa in northern Kefalonia which sleeps from two to four people and, besides having its own pool and garden, is a five-minute walk down a private path to a secluded beach. It is the perfect Kefalonian hideaway, with no neighbour except a tiny church and one other property on the hillside opposite, yet only a ten-minute drive from lively and picturesque Fiskardo, with its plentiful supply of cafes, shops and waterside restaurants.
The road to the Architect’s House leads south of Fiskardo for two kilometres and then down what can sometimes be a rough track. Once there, however, you can relax into what is one of the most bijou holiday villas on Kefalonia. The lower floor contains the pretty double bedroom, from which French doors open onto the terrace and garden, and an open-plan sitting-room/kitchen fitted out in natural wood, in Scandinavian style, and comfortable easychairs. From here, too, French doors give access to the upper terrace and the garden. On this floor there is also a good sized bathroom.
A wooden staircase leads up from the sitting-room to the second bedroom, which has a double bed, sofa and glass doors which open onto a small balcony. As in the rest of this elegant villa, the ceiling is in light wood and the colours are soft pastel yellows and greens.
Outside the garden shows the architect’s hand, being constructed on two levels linked by the sweeping curves of paths and flowerbeds. The upper terrace next to the house is a perfect place for reading and outside dining, while the pool occupies its own separate space in the lower part of the garden, surrounded by a terrace of white stone.
A path leads from the garden to the tranquil waters of a small and secluded beach, where a fringe of fir trees offers welcome shade from the summer sun.
