Village house near River Dordogne

Details

Home Description

On the edge of a hilltop village which overlooks the distant River Dordogne. As you approach from Bretenoux, there are views to die for. Our house is simple yet comfortable and this is a wonderful place to get away from it all. No TV, no WIFI

The Space
A fully furnished holiday house in the hilltop village of Estal, Lot, France (46130), near Bretenoux and the valley of the River Dordogne. There is a minimum let of 3 nights or a week during the summer. Our house is a traditional gite with a large sitting room upstairs, two double bedrooms and a spacious kitchen with dining area. It also has a shower room and a beautiful terrace overlooking our field with extensive views over the surrounding countryside. It easily sleeps 4 and 2 more can use the double sofabed in the sitting room.

We love going there ourselves as life is so different from that in England. The road meanders up from Bretenoux about 5 miles into the hills through peach and walnut orchards and the vineyards of Glanes. Their wine is superb and we always come home with a case or two. Our neighbours look after the house for us as we have been going there for over 25 years and the village welcomes our visitors. Bretenoux is a thriving medieaval town with a regular market.

The area around is stunning and there is much to do. Go canoing on the river Dordogne, swim in the river or in the local pool; go cycling; walk on the local footpaths or the grande randonee (long distance pathway) which passes through the village; go sightseeing to Castelnau (5 miles), Chateau de Montal (8 miles - there is an attractive golf course there too), Carennac , Loubressac or Collonges Les Rouges all or which are designated amongst the most beautiful villages in France; visit the prehistoric caves at Les Eyzies (40 miles), visit the cliffside pilgrimage town or Rocamadour (30 miles); shop in the local markets of Bretenoux or Saint Cere, go horse riding, paintballing or just enjoy being in the house.

We ask guests to give our neighbours 40 euros each stay or week for bed linen and towels.

Guest Access
Wonderful terrace on which to laze and eat overlooking our steep head of the valley field.

Interaction with Guests
We are not there, obviously, but our neighbours look after the house for us and can help you with local knowledge.

The Neighbourhood
We love the warmth of the weather and of the people. The journey from Bretenoux up into the hills is a wonderful
