Details

Home Description

Just outside Sorede, 10 km from the Med and right on the Spanish border this is an ideal location for a family/small group mountains/beach holiday to discover a never to forget part of France. In the 6 years we have been here there are still so many things we have not got to do yet.

Weather is fantastic, food is 'to die for' scenery is simply breathtaking and you will be guaranteed to have a marvelous time. The house is about 3kms from the village so a car is essential for visiting the restaurants and activities planned in the village throughout the summer. There is a NEW swimming pool installed (2013) which guarantees hours of fun for adults and kids alike. There is also a natural swimming pool in the stream directly across from the villa (50M).

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

This is in a part of France which was previously owned by Spain. It is very much steeped in the culture of Catalunya. This is a wine officianados Heaven as the countryside all around is littered with vineyards as well as olive groves. The are has both mountains as well as 40 km of beaches.

The Climate is very mild in winter and gloriously hot in the summer time. The Pyerenee mountains are spectacular and ski resorts are 1.5 hours drive from the house. The area is largely rural but there are 2 shopping centres(7-10mins) and a very large 'Auchan' shopping mall, 25 mins away on the edge of Perpignan. Perpignan is a city of 500,000 and has a TGV connection with Paris (4hours) and Barcelona (35 mins).

Sorede

Sorede is a beautiful little village with a distinct Catalan feeling. It as 3-4 excellent retaurants with friendly helpful staff to suit all budgets. It has an attractive town square where you can sit out and enjoy your meal or engage in people watching and a glass of fine red or white if this is your preference. Wineries abound with degustation and the Pyrennes are a short drive away where Le Petit Train Jeune (40km narrow gauge railway into the Pyreennes) is a delightful way to spend a day. The coast has half a dozen small fishing villages which are excellent for visiting and taking in the local culture. There is NO way you will get to see and do 10% of things you will become aware of on your stay.
