Private property, located in the southwest part of the town of Sainte-Eulalie, Bonlieu Abbey was founded in 1141 by the monk Sicaire, "brother" Baron Gaston de Montferrand. According to the charter of the foundation, Infiltrator is committed to clearing the land allocated to it and build a convent, chapel and hospital. With this donation, the goal of Gaston de Montferrand is to develop previously uncultivated land, to secure them because they were populated by "bandits, mendicant way, thieves, murderers and other ways people useux bad lives" and attract a hardworking population. The hamlet of Carbon-Blanc and its creation is in the Abbey of Bonlieu and leprosy clinic that implanted his monks on the path connecting Bordeaux to the north of the country, and on which merchants and pilgrims journeyed in search of hospitality. Abbey Bonlieu belonged to the Cistercian order founded in 1098 by Father Robert Molesne religious and therefore had taken a vow of poverty. Indeed, the occupations of the monks were divided between prayer, study and manual labor. Protected barons Montferrand and Eleanor of Aquitaine who made several trips, Bonlieu prospered and enjoyed many privileges, including the sale of its wines and its liquor. Indeed, the monks of Bonlieu never exc�rent twenty developed cereal crops and vineyards, and they also built a water mill on a branch of Gua. During the wars between the Franceand England, the abbey was sacked and the original buildings totally destroyed by fire. Rebuilt, it definitely became private property in the sale of national assets under the Revolution. Thus over time, the abbey Bonlieu she has undergone changes, but is still some traces of the ancient monastic buildings, a courtyard at the site of the old cloister, two pillars of the old chapel destroyed some original monks' dormitory windows ..devenu a charming dormitory for the children!
