Richly furnished throughout with sumptuous fabrics, glittering mirrors and charming pictures, this lovely house combines contemporary comforts with dramatic style.
A smart ground floor entrance with broad stairs leads to the grand first floor living and dining room with traditional Georgian wedding doors opening to a splendid kitchen. There are three plush velvet sofas to seat 8, a couple pouf stools and a large TV and DVD over an elaborate marble fireplace. Long extending dining tables can seat at least 10. Pictures of Lady Hamilton and her lover Nelson, gaze from the walls opposite lavish papered alcoves reflected in vast mirrors. A gold dresser holds an I-pod player (with adapter for other devices) along with extra table-ware and a selection of films.
The large fitted kitchen is topped with a black and gold granite and a central island with a large 5-ring hob at the center has 4 bar stools for drinks or treats. There is an oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer combined, large fridge and separate freezer. Cupboards are generously stocked with crockery and cooking implements should you wish to cater for a large gathering.
On a half-landing heading up is a smart cloakroom with hand basin and WC.
On the Second Floor is a lovely master bedroom and impressive master bathroom. The spacious and romantic bedroom, representing the story of Emma’s life in Naples, married to Sir William Hamilton, has 3 large sash windows overlooking Edward Street and a decorative fireplace with carved gold mirror over. Two 3’ beds zip and link to become a 6’ double. There is a chest of drawers and dressing table with a wardrobe in an alcove cupboard. A large double sofa-bed and coffee table are comfortably positioned by a large TV with DVD and a selection of films.
The stylish black and white bathroom has a large central free-standing bathtub with shower hand set. On either side of an original fireplace, are two hand-basins with storage under. There is also a large shower, a WC and a fitted storage cupboard.
On the Third Floor are three further bedrooms and a bathroom. At the top of the stairs is a selection of books. The bedrooms subtly tell Emma’s life story. One bedroom in rich walnut colours with an original cast iron fire-place, has two 3’ zip and link beds that can become a 6’ double, an oak chest, a wardrobe and an easy chair with side table. It tells of Emma’s humble beginnings as Amy Lyon, the daughter of a poor farrier.
The next bedroom in russet stripes, has two 3’ zip and link beds that can become a 6’ double, a chest of drawers, wall hooks only for clothing and a plush stool. This room describes her life as young Emma, a maid, tavern girl and dancer in London.
The final bedroom on this floor is black and silver with an original fireplace, a 5’ bed, chest of drawers, wardrobe, easy chair and side table. It represents her rise to fame to become Emma Hart, a respectable and frequently painted London Lady.
