Are you looking for a self-catering base in York for a weekend break or longer holiday let? ‘Mallard’ is a beautiful, well-appointed, peaceful, 2-bedroom (sleeps 4 comfortably), non-smoking ground floor flat in the historic city of York. The flat is double-glazed and centrally heated. It is situated on the edge of a landscaped complex of houses and flats. The complex was built about ten years ago and is close to the train station, National Railway Museum and city centre. We run the flat in tandem with our local housekeeper, Chris, who meets and greets our guests and handles any inquiries or snags that may crop up during your stay.

To date, ‘Mallard’ has been enjoyed by couples, families, friends, business visitors, academics and disabled guests. It is well suited to non-drivers, as you can walk or bus everywhere in the City. It is also ideal for cyclists, and is close to Sumatrans National Route 65. What our guests say:

‘Mallard’ can accommodate 4 people comfortably. Level access throughout and wide doorways. It has wooden, double-glazed windows with wooden blinds and/or curtains. Gas central heating throughout. Hall with double storage cupboard, with shelf and hanging space for coats.

There are 2 double bedrooms: one with 4’6″ (135cm) double bed and en-suite shower room; one with 3′ (90cm) twin beds (one of which slides under the other if not required) and full bathroom opposite, with second shower with hinged screen and grab rails above bath. Both bedrooms are well appointed with double wardrobe, shelving and drawer space. Both shower room and bathroom have big ladder radiators, mirror and storage space for toiletries.

The kitchen is fully equipped with ample cutlery, good quality crockery and glassware, pans and utensils, blender, teapots and cafetiere. The kitchen has a 4-ring gas hob and electric oven/grill, electric kettle, microwave, 4-slot toaster, blender, fridge-freezer, washer/drier and dishwasher.

The living/dining area has a large dining table and 4 matching chairs + 2 extra chairs. The table can accommodate up to 6. The living area will seat 5 and consists of 2 reclining armchairs, a 2-seater sofa and armchair. There is a flat screen TV with separate DVD player, and small music system.

‘Mallard’ is on the ground floor of a block of 6 flats. It has wooden, double-glazed windows and gas central heating throughout. Large, lit, heated entry lobby and entry phone. Designated parking space nearby, plus ample on-street space for a designated 2nd vehicle. Adjacent, secure bicycle storage.

The complex is landscaped and maintained. There is a quiet, south-facing (shared) area to the side of the flat, mostly laid to gravel, with shrubs and a large planter. Great for lazy breakfasts and sun downers on nice days! Small wooden garden table and two folding chairs provided. Two outdoor recliners in the wardrobe of the twin bedroom.

The flat has its own smoke alarm and fire blanket. The entry lobby also has a fire alarm which is routinely checked by our managing agents. The windows are lockable. Windows have restricted opening, but can be extended in hot weather, or in emergencies, by pressing the red button at the sides.

lovely stay

I stayed here with my wife and two sons, ages 10 and 14. The flat is walking distance from the train station and from York. It is a lovely walk along the river into York. We were welcomed with fresh milk, bread, butter, toilet roll. It is very convenient for sight seeing and a lovely flat to stay in. Location great. Very comfortable accommodations.
