Loved it
Had a lovely time there - place was so clean, right on the beach. Kathy, the owner was so nice and accommodating - public transport outside the door. Only spent one week but wanted to stay for a month - or more. Going back for sure.

We arrived at Goodwyn Beach Cottage approx 17:45hrs on 1/2/22 and were gobsmacked to what we walked into... Absolutely filthy & rundown. However, due to duration of travel, we didn't look around - dropped our cases, went supermarket for groceries and dropped them at the cottage then went out for food. That evening, we came back to find a hole in the bread and half the bread eaten.... BY MICE/RATS!! So, we looked around the cottage to find rodent pellets scattered in several rooms. The cottage was also thick with dirt, leak under the sink in which had gone on to the rug and so it was like a sponge oozing water. Tiles were falling off in the cupboards and bathroom with big cracks. The cooker was filthy with the wood lifting. Used, dirty bedding and cushions left in the utility room. We phoned the owner straight away who abruptly informed us that she couldn't come round as she lived on other side of island. She told us over the phone she had been having a problem with mice. The following morning she came and put traps and pellants out for the mice around the cottage and underneath encouraging the mice to come in. She also put down rotting meat. That night we went out and local residents told us we shouldn't be living like that with the money we spent. This was our first time in Barbados. I showed the locals the photos I had taken who were mortified and stated they themselves were reporting the owner to environmental health. When we got back to the cottage the 2nd evening, we phoned Catherine (owner) again and said we wanted to see her tomorrow as soon as (as we still hadn't). I packed my bags that night as I was absurdly distraught at the situation. On the 3rd morning, Catherine came with her husband, asked us the problem to which my partner informed her we wasn't happy and enquired if they could offer us alternative accommodation - to which Catherine rudely replied - "No, Good luck sorting something" and laughed. We told Catherine about the discussion with the locals and what they had said to which Catherine reluctantly said we could have a refund. She then followed this with "She's a millionaire, she doesn't need the hassle and she wants to sleep at night". We then took her around the cottage to show her the issues - she put a bowl under the leak and stated she didn't know where it was coming from. Following looking around the cottage, my partner asked her if she would live like this in which she said "no", so he asked her why does she expect us to to which she replied well you are in Barbados. Nothing was resolved accommodation wise, only that she would refund our money which we had to fight to get. Catherine sarcastically then said "At least when you get your refund, you've got a free holiday". We ourselves found alternative accommodation. When we came back that afternoon to pack, she phoned us to say Air BnB is going to refund our money and that we had until 11am the following day to "get out!" We told her not to worry, we would be leaving at teatime later that day. We ended up staying at Sapphire Beach (which was cheaper) and they were amazing! They couldn't do enough for us and couldn't believe how we had been treated. Since coming home, we have seen she has put a review on about us stating we took the mice with us - how I managed to get these through customs... well! You tell me! She stated that we caused the damage to the cottage and put the mice in there. It was cleaner when we left than it was when we arrived. For our first time in Barbados - first impressions almost put us off for life! I've never, ever left a complaint anywhere - I just don't return. I have seen okay reviews, I don't know when they are from. This is my truth.
