The island although relatively small, provides a unique opportunity to live in two cultures (French and Dutch). Local markets provide the normal tourist souvenir fair as well as local tropical fruits and spices in season. Phillipsburg, the Capital of the southern Dutch half of the island, provides many opportunities to acquire top quality gems and jewellery at very good prices, tax free. Do not be afraid to bargain. Tours of the island are available and recommended for the adventurous. There are many beautiful beaches all around the island. For the gamblers, there are many casinos on both sides.

There is no damage deposit per se. However, the individual renting the suite will have his/her credit card swiped on check-in and all charges made to the room (drinks, restaurants, etc.) during his/her stay will be charged to the card. As well a $100.00 US damage deposit will be charged to the credit card for every day the unit is occupied. On checking out the occupant will have to have the unit inspected and if there is no damage that charge for the damage deposits will be cancelled.
The rent will vary depending on the season, the fluctuations in the local market and the variation in the value of the Canadian dollar versus the US dollar, as most rentals in Sint-Maarten are priced in US Dollars. The maximum rent currently going for units of this type is $4,300.00 US per week.
