It is a nice option if you'd like the experience of a high end resort but be able to return to the comforts of your own condo in a more peaceful, quiet part of the complex. Akumal with it's lovely beaches, diving and dining, is a 5 minute drive or taxi ride. A 20 minute drive will take you to the beaches, restaurants and mayan ruins of tulum. A 35 minute drive will take you to playa del carmen for shopping, nightlife and dining. It is a 90 minute drive from the cancun airport, we highly recommend you rent a car so you can explore the area.
This area of Mexico, the Riviera maya, is a very popular vacation destination for people from all over the globe. The beaches are ranked among the best in the world, the jungle cenotes (underground rivers and swimming holes) are numerous, the only coastal mayan ruin is nearby at tulum and a day trip can take you to other mayan sites. There are many great restaurants and markets for fantastic fresh and healthy food.
For those seeking more action there is kite surfing, diving, bicycling, para- sailing, snorkeling, hiking and swimming with dolphins. There are parks such as xel- ha, xcaret, xplor and others that provide a nice experience for the family.

Turtles normally arrive to this beach to nest during season.
