PRIVATE STRUCTURE. La Torre Medievale is a stunning 13th century property. The stone farmhouse housed animals around the 17th century whilst the second building was added in the 1950s. The two oldest buildings survived the decay of centuries and up until the 20th century this area was abandoned. In 1953, a baronessa of Irish origin restored the old parts and entrusted the project of the new building to the Roman architect Michele Busiri Vici in order to restore identity to the existing buildings, binding them into a single complex. In 1971 the new owner completely rebuilt the main house and a few years later the two ruins were rennovated, transforming them into the blue house and the yellow house. The property is set in a beautiful park with a stunning view from the pool over to the islands of Tino and Palmaria and Portovenere, while the other part of the property faces the Apuan Alps.
The property consists of three buildings. MAIN VILLA: On the ground floor of the main villa are two entrances, one serving the kitchen, which lead into the living area consisting of two large living rooms (one with fireplace) which lead out into the garden, through large French windows, with the outdoor dining and sitting areas paved in terracotta. Next to one of the living rooms is the modern dining room and well-equipped, brightly-lit kitchen next to a service area that includes the laundry room and a bathroom with shower. In one wing of the ground floor is a first sleeping area with a corridor leading to two twin bedrooms with joinable beds and to a bathroom with large shower. From the main entrance and from the first of the living rooms you come to the base of the tower where a slate staircase leads up to the first floor composed of a study with ornamental fireplace, a single bedroom (with no door), a bathroom with large shower, a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with tub and a beautiful terrace with ample seating to admire the Apuan Alps in front. ANNEX 1: The first annex is a two-storey, stone building, 50 metres from the main villa and reached via a footpath flanked by a stone wall closed with a gate. The entrance goes into the large living room with dining area on the ground floor which is also composed of a single bedroom with additional single pull out bed, a kitchenette and a bathroom with shower and anteroom. A stone staircase leads up to the first floor with a twin bedroom with joinable beds, a single bedroom and a bathroom with tub. In front of the living room is an outdoor area set up for alfresco dining and various relaxation areas. ANNEX 2: The second annex, also in stone, is located in a very discreet location, about 100 metres from the first, and consists of a single room with living area with double sofa bed, kitchen area and bathroom with shower. This also has a relaxation area outside.
The park expands for 15.000 square meters lawn. 5.200 square meters are plain wood, so not easily walkable for the guests. From the main building, both the dependence, and the pool are easily reachable through little paths distributed all over the garden. Paths are marked by dry walls surrounded by olive trees, hedges, fruit plants, rose bushes, and geranium plants, all around the place. The outside area, is also provided with tables and chairs to enjoy alfresco meals.
The swimming pool is set on terracing below the villa which is about 100 m away. It is set in a panoramic position overlooking the sea and is equipped with sunbeds and gazebos. It measures 14 x 4 m with a depth varying from 1,30 m to 2 m; large steps lead into the water. It is lined in slate with a stone border, whilst the sunbathing area is paved with teak and, in part, planted with grass. The pool has salt purification, internal lighting, an outdoor hot-water shower, two guest bathrooms and a small kitchen with brick-built barbecue. It is open from the last Saturday in April to the first Saturday in October.
