Home Description

We live in Florida, this is our second Dublin home. We visit it for about 4 weeks per year. It is a modern flat (built in 2006) in a very well maintained building. You enter into a marbled floor 'T' shaped entranceway which, with its 2.6 metre (8.5 feet) ceilings, feels very spacious. All rooms are accessed from this entryway. There are 2 good size bedrooms. The master bedroom has an extremely comfortable USA king size bed with ample wardrobe and drawer space. It also has its own patio. The master bathroom (en suite) is quite large with a shower, toilet and wash basin. The second bedroom (quite large for a European second bedroom) has two large very comfortable single beds and ample wardrobe space. These beds can be locked together to provide a second USA king size bed (35 Euro). It has access to a second patio. The second bathroom has a bathtub/shower combination and is very spacious. The living room has a 32” LED flat screen TV, a Blu-ray DVD player and a stereo system. A comfortable sofa and an additional chair provides seating for 4 people. There is access to the second patio. The dining area, with its leather chairs, accommodates 5 people. The kitchen is fully equipped to serve 6 people. It is a 'Bosch' kitchen with an electric oven, stove top and microwave oven. There is a powerful extraction fan over the stove top. The large frost free refrigerator and the dishwasher are 'built in'. There is a separate laundry room with a Miele washer and a Meile dryer. There is free ADSL internet service via wi-fi. SKY satellite TV delivers over 100 channels, several of which are international. The phone service offers free calling to landlines in Ireland and 3 cent a minute calls to landlines in many overseas countries. The 'fifth' person is accommodated via an air mattress in the living room. The flat is located on the first floor (second by North American definition) of the building. There is a lift (elevator). An intercom service from the flat to the front door allows for remote door opening. If you plan on renting a car to see the countryside (you do NOT want one in Dublin), please ask us for our recommendations. We also have a parking space in the basement, available at 12 Euro per night, should you bring your car into the city.

About The Area

We are 2 blocks from the entrance to Trinity College and you can walk to every major attraction in central Dublin from our flat. The building is located on a side street between Pearse Street and Townsend Street and boasts a roof garden which has views over the rooftops of much of Dublin. The Luas (tram) service (both the 'red' and the 'green' lines) are a 10 minute walk from the flat. The Dart train station is 5 minutes away. There are several pubs and restaurants within a 2 block walk of the flat and many more within a 4 block walk. Trinity College (home of the book of Kells) and Temple Bar (pubs) are a 5 minute walk. Grafton Street (shopping) and St Stephen's Green are a 10 minute walk. A 15 - 20 minute walk will get you to the Dublin Castle, St Patrick's Cathedral, Christchurch Cathedral and the GPO building (famous for the 1916 rising). The Garden of Remembrance and the Guinness Factory are a 30 - 35 minutes walk. One block away there is a SPAR convenience store which is open until 22:00. There is a large Tesco supermarket in Temple Bar - 4 blocks away.

Great stay in Dublin, Ireland

The flat was perfect for our stay and so close to everything that we wanted to see in Dublin. Also, the day tour meeting spots were all within short walking distance. If you are planning a short vacation with a lot of activities then the flat will be perfect for you needs. Would stay there again in the future if available. Perfect Place!

On vacation with my wife in Dublin for a week (our first time). We prefer private homes and B&B’s over hotels and learned of this property thru on line reviews. Bottom line, a perfect place for us. Once we committed the owner (David) was responsive, pleasant and informative and helped make the booking process easy and our arrival simple. He has a website for the rental that explains just about anything you would want to ask or need to know about the unit and the surrounding area. We also found the cost to be very attractive (we priced hotels in the area and we got much more space for much less money). The property is quite spacious for two adults – 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a modern kitchen and a nice sitting area. Plenty of space to be comfortable in the suite (not that we spent much time there!). It’s in a nice, quiet location. There is a train station nearby if that is your chosen method of transport (the train tracks go right by the unit but I never heard them so noise was never an issue). The property is close enough to the Temple Bar area and River Liffey / O'Connell St. to walk to but far enough away to not have the crowds or noise (about a ¾ mile walk). We only had two minor “issues”. Neither bathroom has outlets (my wife had to take care of her hair using a bedroom outlet and mirror), though we had the same experience in a 5-star hotel in London (where we visited before Dublin) so this may be common in the UK / Ireland (???). Also, the unit only has one TV (in the sitting room, i.e., none in the bedrooms). As noted, very minor things. All in all I give this place (and its owner) very high marks and if we ever return to Dublin we would look to rent here again, without hesitation! Wonderful place to stay - close proximity to everything you need.

This is a clean and modern apartment with very comfortable beds. It works exceptionally well for 4 people since it offers each their own bathroom and balcony. The location is great, everything you want to explore is a relatively short walk away. The train station is close as well. We took the train to Howth (30 minute ride) and enjoyed a day at the Sea shore. Lovely lunch at the Octopusy Restaurant - great food and a very nice view. I highly recommend this apartment, it's so much more comfortable and roomy than a hotel and nearly the same cost. Hope to have the opportunity to stay here again. Great Apartment in the heart of Dublin!

My family of four stayed at this very comfortable and contemporary flat which is in the heart of Dublin. This was our first trip to this wonderful city. The apartment is very well furnished, has everything you need for your stay and had very comfortable beds. It is in a great location and was within walking distance to all the main attractions in Dublin. There are great pubs in the neighborhood and restaurants, which makes it a very attractive place to stay. The owner was also very responsive and available if needed. Dublin Delight

David makes the stay very easy with all of his tips and information/introductions. He is quick to communicate and quite helpful in making the stay as easy as possible. His 'big blue book' in the flat answered all of the questions we could possibly have had about transportation, shopping, dining, working the appliances, etc. The tips from previous visitors was helpful as well. We always try to be gracious visitors and keep everything tidy and even give the housekeeping staff a hand with starting laundry, dishwasher, etc. before our leave. The location is wonderful on the south side, with lots of shopping, Trinity College literally around the corner, plenty of dining options, entertainment, etc. The flat has all of the amenities of home...everything works, and nothing is broken. Appliances and furnishings are quite nice and kept in top shape. Maria, the housekeeper, is quick to make everything right, and although we had no requests, previous visitors complained about not enough glasses and towels, and the poor thing was running back and forth between jobs to ensure that we had all that we needed. Although we did not use it, the underground parking seemed very convenient. Building is quite safe, and elevator roomy enough for luggage and travelers. When we first came in we noted the Irish Rail is right outside of the flat's windows and we thought we would never sleep, however it never bothered us and we actually enjoyed watching the passengers go past. Very nice flat located in the heart of Dublin

Great location near Trinity College, Temple Bar. Dart stations within walking distance

Nice flat in secure building. Great kitchen modestly supplied with nice dishes. Comfortable seating for 3 adults in the living room area. Very comfortable beds. Noise from the Dart tram until late at night and early in the morning. The hot water situation was an issue. Only available between 6am and 9 am. If you use all the hot water at the last minute in the morning then there is none for the rest of the day. Instructions for "boosting" the hot water were tried and were not effective. If this is an issue or if you have more than 2 people showering in the mornings, washing dishes or doing laundry, etc. there will be no hot water until the next day. Submitted: Apr 1, 2017 Stayed: March 2017 Source: HomeAway Owner's Response: The train proximity has been covered in a prior review so we will only address the hot water issue that this visitor has raised. Like almost all Dublin houses, the hot water is heated overnight - from 03:00 until 09:00. (Over night electricity rates are substantially lower than day time rates.) We tell people to shower before 09:00 so that the water will be heated again prior to the 09:00 cut off. We have had 5 people stay in the flat many times and, over the last 3 years, have not had an issue with the hot water since people obviously follow the instructions. Unfortunately, where this visitor is correct is that the "boost" was broken. The boost allows the water to be heated for up to 2 hours on a timer at any time during the day. After reading this review (and the instructions), we discovered that the "boost system" was not functioning. That is being fixed. We should also mention that the laundry and dishwasher are not affected by the hot water. They both take cold water and heat it to the requested temperature.

Clean and Accessible

This was a clean and nice flat. The owner keeps it in top condition, and he is very responsive. The flat served us well during our stay. There are couple points that kept me from giving 4 or 5 stars, however, that didn't come up in the other reviews so I wanted to share in the interest of full disclosure. One is that the flat is right next to a train line, so starting in early in the morning there is a loud train noise outside the bedrooms. It bothered us the first morning, so we downloaded white noise apps on our phones and it was fine thereafter as the white noise covered it up. Anyone who is a light sleeper might need some sort of white noise app to keep from being woken up very early when the commuter trains start. Second, the location is very good, as people say, but that in my opinion is in terms of centrality and closeness to attractions. The actual block the flat is is on and the general area is not particularly attractive--you don't have the sense of staying in "charming" or "cute" part of Dublin, but more of a financial district that empties out after hours and on weekends. There are train tracks with graffiti overhead, etc. There was a tattoo parlor moving in underneath us near the door where you enter--they were working on it and getting ready to open a few days later--so there were people hanging out smoking cigarettes, jamming loud music, and sporting their full-body tattoos whenever we exited or entered the door to the building, including late at night. Finally, there are quite a lot of instructions and rules to follow for the flat. You get a welcome package that is quite thick and detailed, and once you arrive a very thick "blue book" with more details telling you steps that must be followed for this and that, etc. That is appreciated, so that the renter is not left confused, but there is so much information in those documents that if you decide to look up where a grocery store is located, it might take you half an hour of digging through the various documents to find what you're looking for. I am a busy person, want my stays to be "easy" and hassle-free--and I've rented a lot on VRBO in Europe and found it usually to be easy--but found the amount of instructions and details to be quite frustrating and time-consuming. I also own a vacation rental that I rent out over VRBO, and make my instructions as concise and clear as possible. Submitted: Aug 28, 2015 Stayed: June 2015 Source: VRBO, from HomeAway Owner's Response: This is a very disappointing review from a visitor who, when he responded to the survey that I send to all of my visitors 10 days after they leave the flat, only mentioned one of the 4 main negatives contained in this review. (That was the form of the documentation provided). This visitor and I have different philosophies on documentation. After 15 years with VRBO I have learned that you cannot give too much information if you wish to avoid errors and mistakes. I concede that this makes for large documents and this does take more time to read and does not make everyone happy. I wish that I could write everything in 2 pages but I believe that 'too much' is better than 'too little'. I exchanged 51 emails with this visitor. Many of these were questions, the answer to which was contained in the 'large' information package that he had received. The train line is marked on the VRBO map. I discuss the trains with every prospective visitor that I speak to (95% of my visitors). This visitor was well aware of the trains prior to his arrival. I have a document, available to any prospective visitor, which contains the answer to the question 'how were the trains' from the first 10 visitors who visited the flat. None had a problem with them. Of 13 prior reviews on this website only one of them has even bothered to mention the trains. There are no trains overnight. I also tell prospective visitors that if they want to sit on the balcony and look out at pristine gardens that this is not the flat for them. The local neighbourhood can be seen via Google street views. The area was being developed when the 2008 financial crisis hit. Our building dates from 2006 and there are other new buildings close by. Others were purchased for redevelopment and are boarded up waiting for the economy to improve so their development can begin. The tattoo parlour is a big surprise. It was not there in May (our last visit) but, based on this visitor's visit dates, it has now been there for 2 months. No one has told me about it so I can only conclude that it has not had the same impact on subsequent visitors as it had on this visitor. I should point out that the ground floor of our building is commercial and is home to a Creche nursery school, a lawyer's office, an upscale coffee shop, a small supermarket and a hair dresser saloon. Finally, this response is not to refute this review so much as to try to give a more balanced prospective to the negative points made in the review.

Very Nice Experience, wonderful accomodations

After our visit to Dublin and staying in David's flat at Hyde Court, we can only say that we had an absolutely wonderful time in Dublin and Ireland in general. The accommodations were warm and welcoming. David was a pleasure to deal with. He gave us accurate and detailed information on, accessing the flat, nearby amenities, shopping, day trips out of Dublin (which we took advantage of, thank you very much) and other very useful and helpful info. Everything was in order and we felt very comfortable staying there. The location is ideal and within walking distance from quite a few of Dublin's best tourist attractions. Being close to Trinity College, Grafton Street, Temple Bar, Christchurch and other sites, made our stay stress and worry free. Even though we were close to everything, the flat is also located on a relatively quite street. In conclusion, we would highly recommend staying David's flat to anyone planning on traveling to Dublin and we would gladly rent from him again. Terrific overall experience

David was an absolute pleasure to deal with. He gave a very detailed overview of what to expect and how to access the flat. The place was in perfect condition and served as a great home base for myself and young family. The neighbourhood is right in the heart of Dublin, a short walk from most major attractions. The docks neighbourhood needs a little gentrifying, but is only a few blocks from some that are a little nicer. As a bonus, the rental car place is literally around the corner.
